When it comes to finding a near-perfect newborn disposable nappy option, Tesco Ultra Soft Nappies could be it. And, they won’t blow your budget.

The humble nappy has a tough job to do – it’s all that stops the new mum ending up literally up to her armpits in stinky stuff. So every mum is on the lookout for the perfect nappy that does the job and doesn’t break the bank. Perhaps in Tesco Ultra Soft Nappies she might have found it.

Tesco claim Ultra Soft Nappies employ the very best of nappy technology, putting a special pocket inside the nappy to draw wet poo away from your baby’s beautiful bum.

It also includes a nifty cut-out bit designed especially for a newborn’s navel. Supermarket bosses claim it’s a ‘premier’ product but the price starts at a very ordinary £1.66 for 24.

What we love

Admittedly, it’s hard to get excited about nappies, but the Tesco Ultra Soft Nappies are worth paying attention to. Once Cormac was taped into the nappy, it really did what it said on the tin. It was soft and it held everything it was supposed to.

Most impressively, whatever it is that soaks up the ‘stuff’ is so efficient that it effortlessly guzzled up wet newborn poos. Even the most explosive motions are firmly contained. Tesco Ultra Soft Nappies actually made it hard to give the midwife a straight answer when she asked if there had been wet nappies.

What to watch out for

Cormac doesn’t look like a strange shape but, try as we might, the cut-out on the front of the nappy didn’t cover his cord stump. Being on the bigger side, his torso was too long for that part of the nappy. It’s a nice idea to help the navel (or ‘naval’ as the packaging has it) to heal, but it didn’t help our baby. Though, it proved useful in finding the front of the nappy during those dozy middle-of-the-night changes.

It’s also important to make sure the tapes are tight on your little boy’s tummy. A couple of times, Cormac managed to pee over the top if the waist wasn’t tight enough. Don’t worry, it’s stretchy and won’t dig in.

Who are Tesco Ultra Soft Nappies best for?

MadeForMums verdict

Tesco Ultra Soft Nappies are as good as the big brands without costing anywhere near as much. They contain a newborn’s poo and wee safely. The navel protecting cut-out feature will only help if your baby is a standard size and it seems to solve a problem that isn’t really an issue.
