When a much-loved product gets a makeover, it can either be a triumph or a disaster. Fortunately, the revamped Out ‘n’ About Nipper 360 v2 has retained all of the original Nipper’s best attributes, with some great new modifications that make it even more user-friendly.

The Out ‘n’ About Nipper 360 v2 is a rugged 3-wheeler that’s suitable from birth to around 4 years. The new version of this popular ATP pushchair has had 30 updates, including a removable bumper bar, one-handed multi-position seat recline, spring-loaded brakes, harder wearing pneumatic (air-filled) tyres, height adjustable handlebar, a restyled padded seat liner and a bigger shopping basket.

Alongside these modifications, the Out ‘n’ About Nipper 360 retains many of the features that made version 1 a cult favourite, including a 360-degree lockable swivel front wheel, for easy manoeuvring on all terrains, and an easy compact fold.

The Out ‘n’ About Nipper 360 v2 comes in a choice of five colours. There’s a wide range of optional accessories available, including storage basket, newborn support and a fleece-lined supremely snuggly footmuff. It’s also now compatible with the Maxi-Cosi Pebble car seat to make a travel system.

What we love

As soon as I lifted the Nipper 360 out of its box, I began to realise why it has such a loyal fan base. I’m easily daunted by anything DIY, but assembling, folding and unfolding the latest Nipper is a breeze. It’s intuitively designed and I felt confident using it, with no worries that I’d forget how to fold it in the middle of a busy car park.

The Out ‘n’ About Nipper 360 v2 is a dream to push. Its lightweight chassis and pneumatic tyres mean it can be effortlessly manoeuvred with just one hand – a real benefit if, like me, you have an older child to hang onto. The front swivel wheel helps it turn on a sixpence. It’s equally at home negotiating the shops as it is on a bumpy country path.

Among the Out ‘n’ About Nipper 360’s new modifications is a redesigned seat liner with padded wings, which keeps 10-month-old Katie comfortable and secure. I like the way the liner attaches to the seat with Velcro, avoiding annoying slippage.

The hinged bumper bar is another great new addition. It opens from either side and is a useful place to hang toys. I love the thoughtful little touches, such as the supersize sun canopy and the handy storage pockets in the hood, too.

The Nipper is the perfect compromise if you want a light, easy to steer buggy that still offers a sturdy and comfortable ride for your child. Folded with the quick-release wheels removed, it’s surprisingly compact (the folded size goes down to it's 29cm x 48cm x 86cm), but it still feels substantial enough to seat even a larger toddler in comfort. Parents of new babies will also appreciate the fact that it can now be used as a travel system, which makes it even more versatile.

What to watch out for

There’s very little to dislike about the revamped Nipper 360, but one issue is that it doesn’t come with a tyre pump. Given that the Nipper arrived with flat tyres, which I had to inflate before getting going, a pump seems to be a necessity, rather than an optional extra.

While the Nipper is great for older babies and toddlers, I personally wouldn’t put a newborn in the buggy, even though the seat reclines flat. A tiny baby would look lost in the Nipper, and I’d worry that she’d feel too exposed. To get around this problem, you can buy a newborn support (£19.95) or perhaps use it as a travel system with the Maxi-Cosi Pebble (around £150) and adaptors (£19.95), but obviously this involves extra expense and it’s not ideal to keep your baby in the car seat for long periods of being pushed around.

My only other concern was the length of the Out ‘n’ About Nipper 360 v2. It’s quite a long pushchair, and I found myself catching people’s ankles with the front wheel, particularly in a busy shopping centre.

Who is the Out ‘n’ About Nipper 360 v2 best for?

Parents after a lightweight, user-friendly and robust buggy that’s easy to manoeuvre on- and off-road.

MadeForMums verdict

The Out ‘n’ About Nipper 360 v2 is a brilliant all-rounder that’s effortless to push on any terrain, and gives your child a comfortable ride. With its new modifications, it’s sure to appeal to both old fans and new converts. Potentially lasting from birth through to 4 years, it’s a great investment at a good price, although you’ll need to budget for extras such as a newborn support and tyre pump.
