The Viaggio Flex 2-3 is a Group 2/3 car seat is light, easy-to-use car seat that folds compactly when not in use, making it extremely portable.

Created by 70-year-old family-run Italian firm Peg Perego, the sleek and attractive seat was released in the UK in 2017.

At £190, it is at the upper end of the high-backed booster seat market, comparing to the gb Elian-fix, Recaro Monza Nova 2 Seatfix (£119), which includes integrated MP3 speakers, and the Britax Kidfix II XP SICT car seat (£150).

The seat is flexible by name and nature. Suitable from 15kg to 36kg (4 years to 12 years) it fits into the Semi-Universal category, so can be used with your car's 3-point seatbelt, as well as ISOFIX attachment points.

It also features 'All Side Impact Protection' with reinforced aluminium backrest ensures protection against safety. It's wide side wings offer protection to shoulders and chest in the case of a side collision.

It adjusts to suit your growing child, and it is these easy-to-use features - what Peg Perego calls its 4D Total Adjust technology - along with its weight and compact fold, which makes this car seat stand out.

The Viaggio 2-3 Flex also scooped the gold award for best Group 2/3 car seat at the 2018 MadeForMums Awards.

What were your first impressions?

It looks stylish and sleek. When I first used it I found I could adjust all of its working parts without having to look at the manual, such is it's intuitive design. I, of course, double checked everything in the manual as I wanted to be sure I'd done it correctly. Other car seats can be so complicated.

Child booster seat laws – lastest changes

When was the seat released?

June 2016, but the brand, which is 70 years old, was only launched in the UK in March 2017.

Who would the seat be most useful for?

Parents of children aged 3 to 12 (weighing 15 - 36kg, as it's tested by weight), who want a light car seat that folds into a compact size. Great for people going on holiday or who don't have much storage space.

Is there anything unique about the seat?

I've never come across a car seat with such a compact fold. It's also so easy to adjust.

How many positions does the headrest have?

The headrest has 5 positions. The backrest has 3 height positions too, with adjustable sides that give an extra 10cm width. It's like a Transformer, a little car seat that expands really easily with a few clicks.

How many seat positions are there?

The seat has 5 reclining positions.

Is it travel system compatible?

No. It is a group 2-3, so wouldn't need to be as only little 'uns need buggies.

Is it easy to clean?

A very important question if your child gets car sick, or just gets their grubby paws everywhere! All the fabric is removable and 30° machine washable.

What's in the box?

  • Car seat
  • ISOFIX guides
  • Instructions

So you have to buy any additional extras?

No, none are required.

Is it value for money?

It covers a large age range, is the easiest to adjust car seat I've ever used, and it's easy to transport. I think it's good value.

MadeForMums verdict:

The Viaggio Flex is so user-friendly, light, and folds into such a compact size, that I think it's an excellent car seat.
