Pros

  • Great value, good on and off-road, easy to fold and reliable one-click brake

Cons

  • Heavy, seat doesn't feel upright enough, child is long distance from bumper bar

The B-Motion 3 is a 3-wheeled pushchair, designed with ease in mind. (There's also a B-Motion 4 with a similar design but with 4 wheels).

With three children to transport around, I was very keen to see if the claim of an easy-to-handle buggy would live up to its promise.

Part of Britax’ B-named pushchair range, it sits alongside the convertible B-Ready buggy, and lightweight B-Agile 4 buggy.

How easy is it to build from the box?

Assembling the pushchair is fairly easy and mostly intuitive, but you might need to keep a close eye on the instructions when adding the finishing touches, like the hood and bumper bar.

How easy is it to push and steer?

The B-Motion’s air-filled wheels and suspension allow for a smooth ride and easy push on most surfaces, but the sturdy construction makes it a bit of a heavyweight. I found the pushchair easy to control, even if you need to pick up the pace.

The wheels are a good size, which helps if you need to bump the pushchair up or down stairs. It is also relatively easy to get on and off public transport. It does take a little while to be able to judge the full length of the pushchair in crowded situations though.

With the hood up and a bumper bar fitted it is not easy to see exactly where your front wheel is positioned and I had to apologise for knocking ankles a few times on a busy day in town.

How easy was it to fold?

The stand out feature of the B-Motion 3 has to be its easy fold system. It’s as simple to collapse and unfold as the makers claimed. Once collapsed it can stand upright, which is handy if you want to store the pushchair in a hallway or fold up at a busy venue. The wheels also simply click off, if you need to save space when it’s folded or remove them to wash.

However, while the B-Motion 3 is easy to fold, it’s not easy to lift in and out of a car boot and new mums might struggle, particularly after a C-section.

Does it provide protection against weather?

I tested the B-Motion in winter and found the rain covers quick and easy to install and remove. It’s a shame the cosytoes weren’t provided with the basic model – I would recommend buying one.

The hood can be zipped open and has a mesh panel, to help provide additional shade from the sun in the summer.

What about basket size?

It has good-sized storage space underneath. As with many pushchairs it can be tricky to access this, particularly when the seat is lying flat. It does have a useful zip access from the front, but this may be difficult to use with an older child’s legs in the way.

Another nice touch is a zip-up storage pocket in the back of the hood, although this is only easy to use when the seat is laid fully flat.

Did it offer a comfy ride?

The pushchair certainly provides a smooth ride. However, as a nosey 1-year-old, my daughter was a little frustrated the seat would not go more upright, particularly on day trips when she wanted to have a good look around.

The slightly laid back seat position also means there is a fair distance between a seated child and the bumper bar, which makes it more difficult for little hands to reach any buggy books or clip-on toys and rattles you may take out with you.

How was the brake?

It’s easy to put the brake on and off with your foot and, once engaged, its strong – it even managed to hold the pushchair steady on a steep ramp in a park.

Is it travel system compatible?

Yes, detachable Click & Go adaptors are included in the price of the buggy (which is a nice bonus), but you can only use Britax Baby Safe car seats with this model.

MadeForMums verdict

If you want a sturdy and versatile pushchair that will last you a long time and is really easy to fold this could be a great system. It can also support itself freestanding, which is great for storage. But it can feel heavy to lift in and out of a car and if you have a toddler who likes to look out at everything, you may find the seat doesn't go upright enough.
