Bringing up a green baby can be hard work, especially when it comes nappies – you use so many of them! If you want to make some kind of step towards being environmentally minded, Sainsbury’s little ones eco disposable nappies are a convenient option that won’t breaking the bank.

There are many things you want from a nappy, and an eco one shouldn’t be much different, other than the way they’re manufactured. So, what makes the Sainsbury’s little ones eco nappies beneficial for your baby and the environment? The wood pulp is made in a chlorine free process, creating a totally chlorine free pulp, which is a chemical you really don’t want in your baby’s nappy. It has a fully breathable backsheet to help keep skin drier and substitute plant-based materials are used to minimise plastic use. And, they still manage a cute design on the front!

Sainsbury’s also claim they’re trying to improve the percentage of renewable plant-based materials they use, which is currently 60%.

What we love

We love the price. Eco nappies can be expensive, but the Sainsbury’s little ones eco are great value, better for the environment and my daughter’s bottom. There are other nappies on the market which are made from 100% biodegradable materials, but you pay for it, in some cases double.

They cope acceptably with wee and poo and they’re easy to put on, which is very important at the moment with a wriggly 10-month-old.

I would consider Sainsbury’s little ones eco nappies for daytime as they’re cheaper, eco and don’t have that chemical-y smell.

What to watch out for

Sainsbury’s little ones eco nappies are bulkier than one of the leading name brands, and don’t feel as snug. Without the contoured shape like other leading nappies they lack that trim fit between the legs, and as Tippi is now crawling it can be limiting. They also felt quite loose, which could be a problem for a baby who poos and wees a lot.

As they’re eco nappies, I would consider using them through the day but I wouldn’t be happy about using them overnight as we have had a couple of soak-through incidents.

Other nappies are 100% biodegradable, unlike the Sainsbury’s Little Ones Eco. However, others are much more expensive than Sainsbury’s.

Who are the Sainsbury’s little ones eco nappies best for?

Mums after a value disposable nappy that has taken a step in the eco-friendly direction.

MadeForMums verdict

Sainsbury’s little ones eco nappies are good eco-disposables that cope with poo and wee at an acceptable level. However, they don’t offer the best reliability in terms of night-time use. They may not be as snug as other leading brands or 100% biodegradable but they provide a great cheaper alternative. so you can mix convenience with the environment while still being budget-minded.
