When you’re an expectant parent, choosing the right buggy can feel overwhelming – what are the questions you need to ask, what details should you check for in a buggy? So many options!

One practical design feature you might want to look for is whether a buggy can be folded with the seat attached. With many modular buggies or travel systems, you have to detach the seat before folding it.

This can be a bit of a faff if you need to pack it quickly into a car boot – or fold it to fit on a bus.

So having the option to fold it all down with one smooth, quick motion can be really useful if you think you will be travelling – or needing to store it – a lot.

To make your search for the perfect buggy a little easier, we have chosen our favourite buggies that can fold with their seat attached below.

From compact to all-terrain, there is one for everyone, if you feel it would make parenting more straight-forward.

1. Babystyle Oyster 3, £499

Reversible seat: Yes

Weight of pushchair with seat attached: 11.7kg

Dimensions when folded with seat: 71 x 57 x 37cm (with seat unit)

The impressive Babystyle Oyster 3 won Gold in the ‘newborn pushchair’ category at our MFM Awards this year.

It is a deserving winner, with one of our judges praising its smooth ride.

A fantastic all-rounder, it is the perfect pushchair to grow with your child – it is tested to 22kg and you can adjust the hood and backrest as your child grows.

The toddler seat can also lie nearly flat, giving your little one maximum comfort when resting. As for the fold, it is super easy and you can fold it with the seat attached in either direction – parent-, or world-facing. An integrated carry handle is also helpful for slinging the buggy in your car boot or on luggage racks. And we love that it comes in some fantastic colours.

2-i-candy-lime-composite-4471e40-2

2. iCandy Lime, £650 (includes carrycot)

Reversible seat: Yes

Weight of pushchair with seat attached: 10.2kg

Dimensions when folded with/without seat: 70 x 62 x 30cm (with), 68 x 51 x 30 (without)

The Lime is a new buggy from ever-popular brand iCandy. We love that it is sold as a complete package, with all adaptors, elevators and rain covers included, and that it is super compact but also easy to handle.

The fold is very easy, although you have to fold it with the seat facing forward.

But once folded, you can pick it up with its carry strap and off you go. It’s great that you don’t need to remove the bumper either, so no faffing when you have to fold in a hurry.

3-bugaboo-bee-composite

3. Bugaboo Bee 5, £689

Reversible seat: Yes

Weight of pushchair with seat attached: 8.9kg

Dimensions when folded with/without seat: 90 x 46.5 x 32cm (with)

The Bee 5 is the compact pushchair from the iconic Bugaboo brand and is still very popular thanks to its easy push, generous seat and comfort for the child. The fold is super smooth and compact, and it’s easy to execute whether the seat is facing you or the world. The Bee is suitable for kids up to 17kg, so it will last well into toddlerhood. It’s also relatively lightweight for such a good-sized and versatile stroller, so always a very popular city choice.

4-babyjogger-comp-rs

4. Babyjogger City Tour Lux, £379

Reversible seat: Yes

Weight of pushchair with seat attached: 9kg

Dimensions when folded with/without seat: 22 x 53.5 x 67.5cm (with seat)

Babyjogger launched its City Tour buggy to compete in the lucrative ‘travel buggy’ market, and its City Tour Lux is a souped-up version that is brilliantly versatile while maintaining impressive compactness – ideal for travel and city living.

The seat can face both ways, which is unusual for such a compact stroller.

It folds super easily, with the handlebar folding down and the frame collapsing through the classic Babyjogger pull of the handle under the seat.

You can also fold it with the seat facing either way, and it includes a travel bag and a shoulder strap too, so it’s really easy to pick up and go.

Available from: John Lewis, ÜberKids and Amazon

Minnum-pushchair-comp

5. Jané Minnum, £399

Reversible seat: Yes

Weight of pushchair with seat attached: 10.3kg

Dimensions when folded with/without seat: 31 x 58 x 52-60cm (chassis only) 40 x 76 x 52-60cm (folded with seat)

What propelled this fantastic travel system so high up our list is the fact that it’s so clever.

As a buggy, it allows your child to face you or the world and it is very compact when folded, although it doesn’t stand on its own.

It also has a large shopping basket and is lightweight, but most interestingly you can use it with the iMatrix car seat, which transforms into a carrycot – genius.

Uppababy-cruz-comp

6. UPPAbaby Cruz, £599.95

Reversible seat: Yes

Weight of pushchair with seat attached: 9.8kg

Dimensions when folded with/without seat: 43.2 x 56.5 x 91.4cm (with), 33 x 56.6 x 91.4cm (without)

The UPPAbaby brand is all about functionality and simple style and the compact Cruz offers those in spades.

Its shopping basket has fantastic capacity and its sleek design is sturdy yet lightweight. Best of all, you can fold it with the seat attached, in a smooth action.

When folded, the buggy is free-standing, very useful for storing out of the way in cafés or at home.

bugaboo-fox-comp-rs

7. Bugaboo Fox, from £979

Reversible seat: Yes

Weight of pushchair with seat attached: 9.9kg

Dimensions when folded with/without seat: 46 x 60 x 88cm (with), 66 x 54 x 19cm (without)

The Fox from Bugaboo is a fantastic product. It is sturdy, can carry kids up to 22kg and can tackle all sorts of terrain with a super-smooth push, but is still lightweight.

It has a different folding mechanism from its stablemate, the Cameleon (available on Amazon). It is not the most compact or intuitive of folds, but it is good that the Fox offers a one-piece fold that is self-standing, given its size and versatility – making it very useful for a quick fold-up-and-go.

However, even better, if you do need to save space, you can take the wheels and seat off to fold the Fox to the space-saving dimensions of 66 x 54 x 19cm.

So you have the best of both worlds with the Fox. The only reason it’s not higher up our list is that we found the fold a bit fiddly.

8-Babyjogger-comp

8. Babyjogger City Select, £589.99 (for single stroller)

Reversible seat: Yes

Weight of pushchair with seat attached: 15.9kg

Dimensions when folded with/without seat: 32 x 65.6 x 83cm (with)

With more than 16 different configurations, the Babyjogger City Select is a hugely versatile buggy that can see you through from your first born to numbers two and three easily, or twins.

The toddler seat is reversible and the buggy folds well with the seat attached, thanks to Babyjogger’s easy-fold mechanism.

The seat needs to be world-facing to fold it, but if you need to pop it into the trunk of your car without much hassle, it’s great to have the option.

Available from: Amazon, Mothercare and Kiddies Kingdom

9-joie-chrome-dlx

9. Joie Chrome DLX, £300 (£399 with carrycot)

Reversible seat: Yes

Weight of pushchair with seat attached: 12.7kg

Dimensions when folded with/without seat: 93 x 59.8 x 38.5cm (with seat)

Joie has made a name for itself by offering cleverly designed products that are affordable and stylish. The Chrome DLX is fantastic value, as it is versatile and adaptable, and suitable for kids up to 17.5kg.

Its fold is clever, too. Ultra-compact, it can fold with the seat parent- or world-facing, and when folded, the Chrome can be pulled along in ‘trolley mode’, which is a great help when out and about.

You can also use it with the Chrome carrycot, the Gemm or i-Gemm infant car seats – all you need for a practical start to parenting life.

Dimensions when folded with/without seat: 41 x 60 x 75cm

The Cybex Balios S offers an easy, one-handed, compact fold that can be executed with the toddler seat facing either way. We also love that the folded buggy is self-standing – this is more useful than you might think when you have your hands full of baby and gear.

The seat is at highchair level too, so you can use it in eateries when you’re out and about.

Phil & Teds is a great brand for the outdoorsy family, best known for its practical tandem buggies. This Mod stroller can hold a kid of up to 20kg, and has a practical 4-in-1 adaptable modular seat that can be converted into a lie-flat mode.

Its fold can be done with the seat attached either way and is free-standing, which we always appreciate.
