Whether it’s a leakproof swim nappy, a swimsuit with sun protection or just something bright and cheerful, we’ve got the best swimsuits and shorts for all ages.

See the 30 best swimwear options for babies and children in 2019:

1. Kuling yellow pineapple UPF 50+ swimsuit, £20, 18mths-6yrs

Whether you are on a beach or at the local pool, this costume is sure to bring the tropical vibes. Not only is it super trendy, it will be comfy, too, as it’s fully lined, and in a quick-dry fabric.

These days, most good kids’ swimsuits offer UPF protection, and most on this list are 50+. That level of protection blocks around 98% of the sun’s damaging rays, and can protect against sunburn. If you like the idea of UV protection, but are looking for more of a full-coverage suit style, then don’t miss our roundup of 10 of the best UV protection kids’ and baby swimsuits 2019.

2. Splash About baby UPF 50+ Happy Nappy, from £10.99, 0-3yrs

Awards: MadeForMums Awards 2019 Family travel product under £15 – Gold

You’ll obviously want to avoid in-water toilet accidents, especially with tinies who can’t tell you when it’s time to ‘go’. A leak during baby swimming can shut down a pool for an entire day, so having the right protection for your little ones is crucial. One option is to use a fabric swim nappy, on top of a disposable swim nappy, for extra protection.

We like the quick-dry, neoprene Splash About swim nappy, which can be worn without a further swim nappy underneath and comes in a variety of bright prints. Our MFM judge Deanna Maguire, says, “These were so easy to use with my twins and I love that they are good for the environment, and the pocket. They are easy to put on and remove, and I feel confident of no leaks when using them. Absolutely fantastic!”

Available from: Amazon and Splash About

3. Boden zip top UPF 50+ swimsuit, from £20, 2mths-16yrs

Surf’s up! If you have a budding bodyboarder or surfer on your hands, or you fancy a little more protection over their chest and arms, this is a great option. It comes in three prints, and the handy zip means it is very easy to put on and take off – every minute counts when you have a chilly child, post-swimming!

4. Lindex spotty swim pants, £9.99, 2mths-2yrs

A bear on the bum of baby clothing is somewhat of a rite of passage, and these elasticated drawstring, fully lined swim pants are oh-so-cute. You would have to use them with a swim nappy, underneath, to avoid leaks. Keep scrolling for some ideas of swim pants with nappy included.

Available from: Lindex

5. Beanie & Bear UPF 50+ Misty bikini, £40, 3-14yrs

Beanie & Bear is a kids’ swimwear brand known for its quirky bright prints and material that keeps its shape and colour. If you like your swimwear with a side of ‘eco-friendly’, this is a brand for you, as the fabrics, SeaQual and EcoNyl, are as sustainable as possible, and twice as resistant to chlorine, suntan lotions and oils as normal swimwear fabric. This fun bikini is made from a lycra created out of plastic bottles. Don’t miss Batoko and Joseph & Alexander, further down our list, for more recycled swimwear.
