The Najell SleepCarrier X is a portable baby nest, carrycot and playmat designed to give newborns a familiar, contained space for rest and supervised naps at home or on the go.

Suitable from birth up to around 6 months, this innovative 3-in-1 design can be used as a baby nest, opened out as a playmat, or carried using its integrated handles. It’s also designed to fit inside many pushchair carrycots, making it a more flexible alternative to a traditional Moses basket or standard baby nest.

At around £135, it sits in the premium baby nest category, but its standout appeal is its versatility — offering a portable, breathable-feeling space for daytime use, travel and supervised rest. To see how it performs in real family life, we tested it with a 5-week-old baby across days out, supervised naps, overnight trips and buggy use.

About our parent tester

Faye Cobrin tested the Najell SleepCarrier X with her 5-week-old baby, using it for days out, overnight stays, supervised naps and extra comfort in the buggy.

How easy is the Najell SleepCarrier X to set up?

From the start, the Najell SleepCarrier X was straightforward and easy to use. It comes well-packaged and ready to use as soon as you open the box.

All the SleepCarrier's fastenings are sturdy, simple and easily adjustable. The instructions come attached to the nest itself and contain all the information you need.

The instruction pocket is a useful feature, as you can store the instructions within the nest and refer back to them when needed. This was especially helpful when it came to washing the product, which is also covered in the instructions.

How comfortable is the Najell Sleep Carrier X for babies?

My little one sometimes finds it difficult to sleep in larger spaces like her bedside crib. Being able to feel snug and contained helped her to settle after feeds and ultimately nap for longer.

This product has a great supportive structure. The base offers a good balance of comfort and support, while the padded mesh sides feel soft and breathable.

My baby used this regularly for daytime naps. Compared to our Moses basket which we were previously using, she seemed to prefer the SleepCarrier and looked more comfortable and relaxed in it.

How safe and breathable does it feel?

I am very aware of safer sleep guidance, so the breathable mesh lining gave me reassurance when using the SleepCarrier for supervised naps.

This sleep carrier was used during hot weather, and I never had any concerns regarding overheating. There is good airflow, and the fabric felt breathable during testing.

We previously used a Moses basket for daytime naps, but we found ourselves reaching for the Najell more often because of its comfort, convenience and breathable-feeling design.

How versatile is the Najell SleepCarrier X?

My little one was on the smaller size when she was born, and I found she would slide around in her pram. I would have concerns that her face would be up against the sides and would have to readjust frequently on walks out.

The Najell fitted neatly inside her carrycot, which made a noticeable difference. I'd recommend checking compatibility with your own pushchair carrycot before using it this way.

We took this with us on a holiday to the Norfolk beaches. She rested comfortably in the SleepCarrier inside a UV-protected tent while we were on the beach.

I opened the sides to allow more space and airflow, which helped keep her comfortable in the warm weather.

It is easy to adapt, whether using it for naps or opening it out as a playmat. You simply adjust the side toggles and smooth out the sides.

How portable is the Najell SleepCarrier X?

The portability of the Najell SleepCarrier made it easier to move my little one around the house without disturbing her. You simply secure the toggles and straps before moving it, and off you go. She was less likely to startle when moved. It’s easy to carry and feels sturdy while moving around.

It also folds down easily if you need to pack it away or free up space.

How easy is the Najell SleepCarrier X to clean?

My baby often spits up after feeds, so I need to wipe and wash things often. I found the carrier very straightforward when it came to removing the structure boards and putting it in the washing machine.

However, I would have preferred the option to wash the mattress section separately from the rest of the carrier.

The instructions are clear, and the structure bases are easily removed.

What is the build quality and style like?

I tested the Oat Beige colourway. Its natural, sleek design means it fits easily into most home environments. Its lovely neutral colour gives the fabric an even more luxurious, premium look.

The product feels very durable and if well looked after, could last a long time.

From a sustainability perspective, the product arrived in minimal, largely recyclable packaging.

Is the Najell SleepCarrier X worth the money?

I think this product is worth its price tag. I normally stay away from baby nests because I worry about airflow and overheating.

However, I would recommend this product to other parents; it has become one of my most-used everyday baby items.

MadeForMums verdict:

The Najell SleepCarrier X quickly became one of our most-used baby products. It felt comfortable, breathable and easy to move around, and worked particularly well for supervised daytime naps, buggy use and days out.

It is a premium product, but for parents looking for a stylish, portable and versatile option for the early months, it feels like a worthwhile investment.
