What are Squishmallows?

Squishmallows are egg-shaped plush toys made of a fuzzy, stretchy material. They’re known for their adorable faces and super soft insides which you can, well, squish.

Squishmallows can come in the form of different animals – real or mythical – or food, as well as a range of famous characters from the worlds of Disney, Pixar, Marvel and more. There are a variety of sizes on offer, ranging from 2-inch to 24-inch, with the new 10-inch size coming out just this year.

Every Squishmallow also comes with a tag carrying their name, birthday, and a short backstory. These often centre around different jobs but sometimes can be more inclusive, for instance there’s a mango Squishmallow with dyslexia and an axolotl that “talks with his hands.”

How many Squishmallows are there?

There are now over 1,000 Squishmallow characters with unique names and backgrounds. From Squishmallows in the form of a siracha bottle, to woolly mammoths, there are thousands of options to choose from.

Plus, there are rare Squishmallow characters, which only have a few hundred in circulation. These are likely to be found in stores or being resold online at shops like Etsy.

How to wash Squishmallows?

If you want to wash your Squishmallow, the best and safest method is to do so by hand. With this, we recommend using wet wipes and small amounts of dish soap to gently remove marks. Then, pat your Squishmallow with a clean towel and leave it to air dry.

However, for tougher stains, it is possible to put your Squishmallow in the washing machine without damaging it, as long as you run it on a cool and delicate cycle. It would also help to put it in a safety net or bag to avoid it getting battered around by the washing machine. You may need to squish it back into shape a bit when it comes out, but this should prevent any rips or stuffing falling out.

How to spot a fake Squishmallow

The easiest way to make sure you’re buying a genuine Squishmallow is to shop on trusted toy websites like The Entertainer, Smyths or Argos.

Otherwise, these are the signs to look out for: Real Squishmallows will always come with 3 tags, the first will say “Original Squishmallows” with a picture and the name of your new friend, the second should have “Kelly toys” on and other information about the product, and the third will have the toy’s backstory and batch number.
