  • How big is your baby?

Wow! Your baby has more than doubled in size since last week, and is now around 4-5mm – the size of long-grain rice.

Now find out how your baby is growing…

  • How is your baby growing?

Your baby’s brain is now growing rapidly, developing areas that will control memory and thinking. There’s been a lot of stretching and moving going on (although you’ve still got at least around 10 weeks before you’re likely to feel anything). The embryo is starting to straighten out as tiny bones begin to form and your baby looks more and more like a miniature human being.

There’s a dark splodge where the eyes (and eyelids!) are forming. A tip of the nose is present and even lips and a tongue. Meanwhile, the arms and legs are slowly becoming more recognisable, growing longer and more paddle-like and your baby’s hands can even bend at the wrist.

Your baby’s heart is becoming a four-chambered organ and beating about 150 beats a minute – that’s twice as fast as yours.

Now find out what’s happening to your body…

  • What’s happening to your body?

Right now your body is probably telling you that you need to go to the loo – so make sure you know where the nearest lav at all times. Expect frequent dashes to the toilet from now until your second trimester. The reason for this – your uterus will have grown to the size of a small tangerine and will be squashing against your bladder. Also an increase in the hormone progesterone stimulates your bladder muscle giving you that urge to wee, even if your bladder’s not full.
