  • How big is your baby?

Your baby will be about 37cm long from crown to rump, or 48cm from top to toe, by the end of the week, which is about the size of a big watermelon!

Now find out how your baby is growing…

  • How is your baby growing?

The circumference of your baby’s head and your abdomen are around the same size. Early contractions will be making your womb push in around him. He’s too big to turn around, so the position he is in now is probably the position he’ll be born in.

This week, he’ll continue to put on weight and practice those all-important sucking moves. He’s spending more time awake, and has his own patterns of sleep and wakefulness.

Now find out what’s happening to your body…

  • What’s happening to your body?

Your body will be preparing for dilation and effacement at this point. Effacement is the thinning out of the cervix, and dilation is the opening up of the cervix, both of which enable your baby to be born. So far, your cervix has been closed and protected by a mucus plug. It’s near the end of your pregnancy that your baby’s head moves down into the pelvis and pushes the cervix, relaxing it. Your cervix is fully dilated at 10 cm.
