Benedict Cumberbatch has confirmed he's expecting his first child with fiancée Sophie Hunter. The couple were photographed together at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Saturday – where you can see a small baby bump under Sophie's flowing dress.

"I am delighted to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child," a spokesman said. "They are both over the moon."

Sherlock actor Benedict, 38, and fellow actor Sophie, 36, got engaged in November last year and are rumoured to want to wed in spring this year – before the baby arrives. Rumours of the pregnancy started after a source told the New York Post's Page Six Benedict is "delighted and excited about becoming a dad."

And he won't have long to wait as Sophie is reportedly already a "few months along".

"Both she and Benedict are very excited about it," the source added. "They are also quietly planning to marry in early spring."

What will the Cumberbaby be called?

Betting agencies have already announced the odds on possible names for Benedict's first child.

Seeing as the couple are relatively traditional – they did announce their engagement in The Times newspaper after all – the list is topped with traditional and royal-sounding names. Currently at the top of the list are Katharine, Charles and Henry, all with 10/1 odds.

The outsider choice is Bumbercatch – but we doubt the parents would be so cruel as to name their firstborn Bumbercatch Cumberbatch.

Congratulations both!
