Six women over 55 being considered for fertility treatment
Older women have approached a leading UK Fertility Clinic in a bid to have a child
Six women over 55 are in talks with the London Women’s Clinic to have fertility treatment to help them conceive.
The clinic has been at the centre of controversy before, when last month they held a consultation with a 59-year-old retired teacher, Susan Tollefsen, who would be the oldest IVF mother in Britain if she went ahead with further treatment.
Following that consultation, the London Women’s Clinic confirmed it had changed its policy on older mums, saying it wouldn’t rule out treating women based on their age.
Since this change in policy, six women over 55 have contacted the clinic about treatment. If successful, they would join the 20 mums over 50 each year that have IVF babies in Britain.
Commenting on the change of policy, the London Women’s Clinic said in the past women aged 55 or over would have gone abroad for treatment, but now they would have a chance to be treated in Britain.
