Ads and posters will target sports players and fans appealing for sperm donations
A new campaign targeting sports players and fans has been launched to boost sperm donations.
Leaflets and poster brandishing slogans such as “Strong swimmers wanted”, and posing the question “Sperm donation – have you got the balls?” have been sent to sports clubs and venues in the Manchester area as a pilot run of the campaign.
The National Gamete Donation Trust is trying to boost donor numbers from 384 to about 500 in the UK. There’s concern that sperm donations have dwindled since donors lost their right to anonymity in 2005, allowing children to trace their biological dads when they turn 18.
About one in 6 couples struggle to conceive and many face waiting lists due to the shortage of sperm donors.
