Watch our video to see what your baby looks like this week

Those little arms and legs now have the beginnings of fingers and toes at their tips. And your baby’s making (and connecting) brain cells at a properly clever rate: something like 100 a minute!

So what's happening to your body this week?

There’s so much going on in your body right now, it’s enough to make your head hurt. Literally. Pregnancy headaches are annoyingly common, especially early on. And the culprits? Could be:

  • your hormones (rightly getting the blame for a whole heap of stuff right now)
  • dehydration or low blood-sugar levels, if morning sickness means you’re not getting enough food or fluid
  • caffeine withdrawal, if you’ve given up coffee
  • just be the stress of coping with all the exhausting newness pregnancy brings with it

See your GP if you’re getting blurred vision or vomiting, too; otherwise, treat your sore head with paracetamol (take the minimum amount needed) and a good rest.

4 things you might need to know this week

Tip of the week from our community

“I've never been so exhausted in my life. It's overwhelming. My best advice: don't fight it. Your body is telling you something. Rest whenever you can, even just with your feet up and a cup of tea. I've spent several weekends in bed!” said Georgia, a member of our MadeForMums community.

Is it normal... to have the runs?

8-weeks-pregnant_week8diarrhoea1

What a thing – the loo is becoming your new bf. Constant wee trips, queasy throw-ups and now, your poo may be more like a lumpy, muddy river. (Sorry, if that's just brought on the quease.)

Who's to blame? Yep, those pesky pregnancy hormones, a virus, or it could be something you've eaten. Our mums found the runs subside by the second trimester (though may make a comeback just before labour). So make sure you drink lots of fluids (yay, more trips to the loo), stock up on bog roll and find a good on-the-loo book.

OK, enough loo talk. Back to something yummy...

Our pregnancy recipe for week 8 - Chicken and yogurt casserole

Why yogurt is great for your growing baby

Spoon for spoon, yoghurt contains as much calcium as milk – and calcium’s a must-have nutrient in pregnancy to help your baby’s bones form properly. Plus it’s packed with protein and folic acid (which can help protect against birth defects), and its active cultures can help calm sensitive stomachs and thrush (yup, another all-too-common ‘bonus’ of pregnancy).
