    A strange quirk of pregnancy means that your senses are more acute, so you may find that you’ve become extremely sensitive to smells. This can play havoc with your diet if you’re finding yourself suffering from morning sickness. Breakfast smells can be particularly pungent, so ask your partner to refrain from early morning fry-ups.

    Queasiness can also make you shy away from exercise and going to the gym. See if your gym will let you freeze your membership for a few weeks, so you can return when the sickness has hopefully subsided.

    While it’s great to keep yourself fit and healthy during pregnancy, it’s also important to listen to your body – so don’t feel bad about sitting on the sofa if that’s what you need to do right now. You can exercise again later, when you’re feeling better.

  • What should you be doing this week?

    By now you will have booked your dating scan (which usually takes place around your 12th or 13th week) and will soon have the chance to hear your baby’s heartbeat and see your baby on the big screen! Depending on which health authority area you live in, you may have a nuchal fold scan at the same time as your dating scan. This will estimate the perceived risk you have of having a baby with Down’s Syndrome.
