  • Car seat compatible double buggies

A travel system isn’t the solution for all new parents, but it certainly can be useful if you rely on your car, and are constantly getting in and out with your baby (or babies) in tow.

With double buggies, there are two travel system options. First is the travel system for twins, where two car seats can be attached to the buggy or buggy chassis at once. The second is where the double buggy can have one car seat attached and one buggy seat, so your baby has a travel system whilst your child has a buggy.

Before you spend any money, swat up with our buyer’s guides, so you know exactly what you need:

  • iCandy Peach Blossom Twin, £1,139.98 all in

Yes, that price tag hurts to look at! The iCandy Peach Blossom Twin, when purchased with the compatible Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix car seats, car seat adaptors, carrycots and buggy seat units, isn’t a budget option.

But it does offer a premium performance as a travel system for twins. It’s slimline, with a compact footprint, and handles wonderfully.

There’s also a one-handed seat removal system. The downside is that to fold it flat, you need to take the adaptors, car seats, carrycots or seat units off.

Read the review of the iCandy Peach Blossom Twin, tested as a twin travel system.

Alternately, you can use this as a travel system for one and buggy for your older child– read the review of this set-up, known as the iCandy Peach Blossom tandem travel system.

You can buy the Peach Blossom Twin on the iCandy website.

  • Britax B-Agile double, from £349.99

Our reviewer tested the Britax B-Agile buggy out as a single system (£199.99), but in its double form it can be used as travel system for a baby and toddler and both seat units are suitable from birth.

The lightweight pram gives a smooth ride, so much so it can be steered with one hand, according to Britax.  And it handles bumps with ease and folds almost to the same size as the single version.

  • Bugaboo Donkey, £1121.05 + car seat/s

The only double buggy in the Bugaboo collection, the Donkey was one of the most eagerly anticipated buggy launches of 2011.

Four years on and the Donkey hasn't lost any of its allure. The convertible pushchair extends from a single seater to a double with an expandable chassis and can be used with two car seats, carrycots or seat units.

It scooped the gold medal at the 2012/13 Practical Parenting Awards for Best Double Buggy for its adaptability and movement. However, it is a very expensive buggy and will not suit all pockets.

  • iCandy Apple 2 Pear tandem, £880 + car seat/s and adaptors

Versatility is the name of the game with the iCandy Apple 2 Pear, as it can be used as a single or double buggy, a travel system for one or for two.

The first company to produce a single to double buggy back in 2005, iCandy has made its newest Apple 2 Pear (released in 2014) lighter and even more adaptable.

Now the seats can be used from birth with newborn nests, the bouncy suspension means the buggy doesn’t feel heavy when pushing and it is narrow enough to make it through doorways.

True to iCandy style, it is a high-end buggy with a high-end price tag, so not for all budgets.

  • Phil & Teds Navigator Inline Double, £771.95 + car seat

The ability to convert between a single and double buggy set-up, combined with an age suitability of birth to 6 years, gives the Navigator Inline Double a long life span.

But it is the buggy's auto-stop feature that makes it unique.  In fact it is the world's first auto stop inline, meaning the double buggy automatically stops as soon as you take your hands off the handle.

The Navigator also has a twin capsule capability, so you can push two newborns in two car seats.  And there are a further 25 different seating options after that, so the chances are, your little ones will out-grow the buggy before you've had a chance to fully explore it.
