There are a large range of maternity fashion brands on the market, from boutique, capsule collections of specific pieces to big-name retailers launching extending ranges.
Many high street brands now only offer their maternity line online or in selected stores, so shopping online is often the best way to find the full range.
These are our favourite places to shop for maternity and nursing wear:

1. Tilbea

Best for: vibrant and bold animal prints

Sizes: small to X large | Awards: MadeForMums 2020, Pregnancy & maternity fashion – Gold

Need to know: The brand was started by two mums looking to create fashionable maternity and nursing clothing which were still practical for the demands of motherhood.

Why we love it: There is an abundance of colour, especially bold animal print designs across a wide range of cleverly considered clothing, which is versatile as well as stylish.

Our mum-to-be and tester Ali was taken with the “great quality” of the brand’s clothes and said it was “raising the bar for maternity wear.”

We were so impressed, we awarded Tilbea Gold in our MadeForMums Awards.

Key pieces: We love the oversized hoodie which can slip open easily to allow access for nursing. There are also pretty print dresses in floaty, wrap and bodycon styles.

2. Seraphine

Best for: clothing for you and your baby

Need to know: A popular maternity brand which offers everything from lingerie to outdoor coats, as well as stylish dresses and essentials

Why we love it: There are plenty of pieces designed for mums to stay close to their little ones and even match them in adorable, coordinating tops and jumpers. There’s clothing options for dads too, to allow skin to skin contact.

Our testers said they loved the range and even “lived” in their Seraphine jeans, so we awarded the brand Silver in our MadeForMums Awards.

Key pieces: We love the miniature coordinating versions of the adult clothes, which have even been seen on the likes of Myleene Klass. The outdoor coats are designed for sub-zero temperatures and have built in baby support. There's also more relaxed wrap-arounds for laid back cuddles.

3. Bump Activewear

Best for: specialist activewear

Sizes: X small to large | Awards: MadeForMums 2020, Pregnancy & maternity fashion – Bronze

Need to know: Bump creates specialist maternity sports clothes for pregnancy, with a pared down selection of fitness essentials for your workout wardrobe.

Why we love it: Simple yet carefully-designed pieces which aim to support mums-to-be while they stay active. The range is understated but stylish and “cool”, as our MFM judges described it, in a muted colour palette of key tones.

Tester and mum of 2 Natalie was also impressed that her Bump leggings, “didn’t go see-through when exercising,” thanks to the quality fabric. We awarded Bump activewear Bronze in our MadeForMums awards.

Key pieces: The mesh leggings are designed for ultimate comfort and breathability while working out, as is the Serene mesh top. We loved this teal colour for a little pop of colour. Bump has also designed its the Bump Booty Band for pregnant women, which comes with an e-book of fitness advice.

Need to know: Known for its gorgeous kids’ clothes in colourful prints, Frugi has an equally eye-catching maternity range. Frugi’s line features plenty of pieces that will do double duty for nursing as well as pregnancy, giving you better value for money.

Why we love it: Frugi clothing is made only from organic cotton and soft modal for comfort – just what you need when you’re expecting. We love the bright patterns and fun designs available, too.

Key pieces: You can pick up summery dresses at knee, midi and maxi length in cute prints. There are also short- and long-sleeve T-shirts you can use for nursing as well as comfy jumpers which will cover your bump.

5. ASOS Maternity

Best for: sporty and stylish

Need to know: Online fashion favourite ASOS has a huge range for both expectant and nursing mums and it’s all at a great price – you could buy your entire pregnancy wardrobe here without breaking the bank.

Why we love it: For everyday basics there are multi-pack T-shirts and vests for layering as well as jeans. These are often one of the first wardrobe staples you can no longer squeeze into after the first few months of pregnancy. Plus, there is a great range of sizes.

Key Pieces: For chilling at the weekends there are leggings, sweatshirts and hoodies, while for nights out there are jumpsuits and dresses and branded items as well as special collaborations for something a little special.

Why we love it: The workout clothes are made from high-performance, shape-retaining fabric and available in 3 different colour ways. The tops and sports bras feature extra support and control, too – no bouncing here!

MFM judge and mum Claire said she, "found the FittaMamma leggings to be incredibly supportive". She added, "They helped to relieve my aching hips. The material did not loosen during exercise or roll during movement and kept me feeling secure and supported."

Need to know: Worn by Hollywood heavyweights Natalie Portman and Anne Hathaway during their pregnancies, French brand Envie de Fraise offers a style-conscious range.

Why we love it: Bright and stylish clothes with thoughtful, practical touches. You’ll find smarter options for work here.

Envie de Fraise also offers more choice in bras and swimsuits, selling basic options through to premium. In essence, Envie de Fraise has something for everybody’s taste and budget.

Key Pieces: Dresses are a great, failsafe option when you’re pregnant and the range includes everything from bodycon to flowing maxi dresses as well as trousers, in plenty of different colours and prints.

Several of their dresses and tops are also pull down or adjust for nursing once your little one is born, meaning you should get extra wear out of them.

8. Hotmilk Lingerie

Best for: pretty but practical maternity and nursing lingerie

Need to know: You’re pregnant, but that doesn’t mean no more glamorous, sexy underwear. Not only does Hotmilk lingerie fill this brief, but its designs are created especially for pregnancy and breastfeeding, too.

Why we love it: Practical, fold-down bras which are also glamourous make Hot Milk a go-to lingerie brand for us. MFM judge Rebecca described a Hot Milk bra she tested as a, "very stylish maternity bra with great quality fabric" and like that you can use it for nursing too.

Key Pieces: There are functional choices for comfort and reliability as well as gorgeous non-wired, neutral coloured and lacy styles – but there are also bras with underwiring for days when you want a bit more lift.

Thought you couldn’t wear an underwired bra? You thought wrong. They’re fine to wear when you’re expecting and also from a few weeks after birth (as long as your breasts don’t feel like they change size during the day, or if you have mastitis).

Why we love it: Going to a posh do, or getting married before your bump becomes a baby? Even though your shape is changing, you’ll still want to look your absolute best. And for this, we guarantee you’ll say yes to the dress when you see Tiffany Rose’s collection. There is a wide range of really beautiful gowns and even wedding dresses which are Red Carpet ready.

Why we love it: The big plus of SpeedBump’s clothing is that the fabric retains its shape, so you should be able to wear their exercise clothes after you’ve given birth, claims the brand.

Love Island star and mum of one, Cara De La Hoyde says: “Great quality, with really nice ‘holding in’ material.”

MFM judge and mum of 2 Magda added: “Very high-quality fabric and love the mesh areas for sweat wicking.”

Need to know: H&M has been a staple store on high streets across the globe for years, offering affordable stylish clothing for all budgets.

Why we love it: There are soft cotton tops, relaxed nursing lingerie and comfy basics plus plenty of jeans to fit around your bump. We like the range of classic essentials on offer which won’t break the bank and make it an easy go-to for most mums and mums-to-be.

Key pieces: You can never have too many casual t-shirts and long sleeved tops. Non-wired lingerie which unclips for nursing is truly an essential and, with H&M’s maternity option, you can even wear skinny jeans again!

Key pieces: There are plenty of cosy and cute sleepwear choices with fun phrases and charming characters, as well as classic designs such as nautical stripes and sweats for curling up in on the sofa in.

Why we love it: Jojo Maman Bebe’s maternity clothes are quality classics which can go with almost everything. Anything we can mix and match with our existing wardrobe works for us!
