How we tested these all-terrain pushchairs
Our Best lists are compiled by qualified and experienced parenting journalists. They rely on a number of sources, including our independent reviews, testing undertaken during the MadeForMums Awards, and feedback from our home testing panel and Top Testers Club. Each year thousands of products are put through their paces by hundreds of parents across the country on behalf of MadeForMums, to ensure we’re bringing you honest and true reviews and recommendations.
For this list, we considered wheel type and size, suspension and handling, comfort for child and parent, pushchair size and weight, as well as extra features and value for money.
We don’t rank these in any particular order; each product is here because it stands out for a different family, budget or lifestyle need.

Why we chose it: A budget-friendly all-terrain jogger bundle that works well as both a running buggy when you'r baby's old enough, and an everyday pushchair from birth.
For families that enjoy the outdoors, or are fans of walks off the main pavements, the features that make this a good running buggy, make it an excellent buggy for everyday adventures.

What we like
- Excellent value
- Works as both a jogging and everyday pushchair
- Adjustable handle height suits a range of parents
- Suspension helps smooth out rougher terrain
- Replacement parts are easy to source
- Comes as a newborn-ready bundle
What to keep in mind

Designed as a dual-purpose everyday stroller and running buggy, the Venus Jogger Pro Prime is a practical option for active families who don’t want to buy separate pushchairs for different uses. Our reviewer found it handled pavements, grass and uneven ground confidently, plus the included newborn carrycot makes it a great option to use when your baby is young.
It’s understandably larger than a typical city buggy, but that extra size brings durability and stability across mixed terrain. For the price, it’s a versatile bundle that covers a lot of ground for families planning regular walks, off-road use or jogging with their child.

What to consider when buying an all-terrain pushchair
Wheel size: The general rule is that the larger the wheels, the better the pushchair will handle rough terrain. Models with larger wheels front and back usually make off-road pushing easier.
Tyre type: Air-filled tyres often give the smoothest ride on bumpy ground, which is useful if you want a tougher all-terrain buggy or one you can jog with. Foam- and gel-filled tyres can be lower maintenance but may add weight.
Suspension: Good suspension helps make off-road pushing easier and keeps the ride more comfortable for your child. Some models also offer more heavy-duty or adjustable suspension.
Number of wheels: 4-wheel pushchairs can feel more stable and often have bigger baskets, while 3-wheel models tend to be easier to manoeuvre over roots, kerbs and uneven ground.
Weight and size: All-terrain pushchairs are often heavier and bulkier than standard pushchairs, so think about storage, boot space and how often you’ll need to lift them.
Accessories: Check whether essentials such as a raincover are included or sold separately, along with extras such as a footmuff or cup holder.
Fabric: If you’ll be heading off-road regularly, water- and mud-resistant fabrics can make a real difference.
Do I need to buy an all-terrain pushchair?
Yes – If you regularly encounter bumpy terrain, live in a rural area or often head off-road, an all-terrain pushchair can make a big difference to comfort and ease of pushing.
Probably not – If you mainly do town walks with the occasional park or country path, a regular pushchair with decent wheels may well be enough. The models that tend to struggle most on rough ground are lightweight strollers with very small wheels and limited suspension.
Are all-terrain pushchairs suitable from birth?
Most of the pushchairs on our list are suitable from birth, either with a separate carrycot or a lie-flat seat. However, according to standards that assess whether a pushchair is suitable from birth, “lie-flat” only has to be 150°, not 180°.
Given the scientific evidence behind keeping your newborn baby lying flat in a pushchair, we recommend that if you’re using your pushchair frequently with your newborn, you choose either a carrycot or a model with a full 180° flat recline.
How much does an all-terrain pushchair cost?
Prices vary significantly, from under £200 to well over £1,000. As well as the headline price, it’s worth thinking about whether you’ll also need extras such as a carrycot, raincover or car seat adaptors, as these can add significantly to the overall cost.
