Case-in-point; the Picklesuit. It was launched in 2014 by London mum-of-two Melanie, who was frustrated at how complicated her children’s sleepsuits were to do up.

When her second baby was born and she was still struggling with the leg poppers, she went on the hunt to find an easier option.

Unable to find anything, she decided to launch her own, naming it the Picklesuit. Retailing at £19 the Picklesuit is a bit more expensive than high street babygrows, but is handmade in a British factory using premium quality material and is, quite honestly on par with more designer brands.

Melanie called her company Picklebee and alongside the Picklesuit, she sells fun bibs, leggings and other accessories. When first purchased, the Picklesuit comes in a pretty organza bag, so looks lovely as a gift and a gift note can be added if required.

How does the Picklesuit work?

The Picklesuit has chunky moulded plastic zips on each leg with concealed flaps to protect your little one’s limbs.

It also includes wide arms and non-slip soles for six months upwards to accommodate crawlers and walkers.

The body part of the suit still features poppers meaning it lies flat on the body but while the suit can be fully opened, its zips allow parents to undress their babies lower half during nappy changes.

This means they also stay nice and warm and there is less dressing to do afterwards.

You can buy the Picklesuit from Not On the Highstreet or on the Picklebee website.

Does it make life easier?

Yes, this is definitely a practical, hassle-free suit with no faffing, making nappy changes much quicker and easier. My husband is particularly slow when it comes to changing nappies, but he loved the suit.

Is it safe to use?

Yes! The fabric flaps ensure that the zips never touch the baby’s legs, so you don’t need to worry about pinching their skin. The Picklesuit also confirms to British Safety Regulations.

Is it easy to wash?

Yes, all the suits are machine washable and can be tumble-dried and ironed on low. It washed very well.

Would you recommend this suit?

A bit thumbs up from me. I loved it, as did my little girl. It was great to use, looked good and will be passed on to friends as soon as my little one grows out of it.

What is the Picklesuit made from?

The one we reviewed was lovely extra soft and stretchy micro-fibre and is ideal for the colder months.

They are also available in 100 per cent cotton and a super-soft Oeko-Tex certified fabric. It was very soft and comfortable and ideal for daytime or sleeping.

Any extras needed?

No

What colours are available?

We reviewed the Red and White Stars Fleece, a unisex option in 6-9 months.

There are also other unisex options – White Cotton Red Stars and Grey Cotton Red Stars and Colourful Cars for boys and Dreamy Clouds for girls in the Oeko-Tex fabric.

I think the fit was rather on the small size and was a great fit for my five-month-old girl.

I think the design and colours are lovely and the unisex options are great if you want to buy someone a gift for their baby shower and you don’t know the sex of their baby.
