Amadeus Anywayup Cup review

IT comes highly recommended - it's won a host of awards, including the Tommy Award for the Most Parent Friendly Innovative Product and was one of the official Millennium Products, which went on exhibition around the world to highlight British innovation at its best.

With this kind of kudos I was expecting something good, and got it to a degree.

What we love

The good thing about the cup is that it's really simple - it's a cup and lid, with the special leak-proof vacuum valve integrated into the spout, so it's easy to clean. You can also buy replacement lids if you need them.

What to watch out for

Some children find the vacuum valve really hard to suck through. The lids are really stiff, so if you have any problems with weak hands or wrists, try one out before you buy.

But there were some downsides. I found was that the lid was really hard to get on and off. Even my husband, who can usually be relied on to open jars, said he found it hard to get the lid off.

I wash all Arron's cups in the dishwasher - firstly because I'm just a bit lazy, and secondly because they get a far better wash in there than if I did it myself (see the first point about me being lazy). After this I noticed that the lid and cup no longer match in colour. Not a big problem, but there it is.

Like other mums who have reported that their children find it hard to suck through the valve, Arron, who's just turned 3, said it was hard to drink from, and we have found other cups he much prefers. However, with more than 25 million cups sold with the leak-proof valve, they must be doing something right!

The Amadeus Anywayup Cup is simple in design, but does just what it promises, that is it offers leak-proof drinks for toddlers. Watch out for that hard-to-get-off lid, and try one out to see how your child gets on with the valve.
