The folk at Summer Infant felt there was a need to produce a product that was portable as well as providing extra comfort for your baby. They came up with the Summer Infant 2-Level Booster Seat – a lightweight portable highchair and booster seat for taking out and about, and for home use.

What we love

Taking the Summer Infant 2-Level Booster Seat out of the box, I was surprised at how light it was – and feared it would be somewhat flimsy. However, once I’d got it unfolded, and secured to a chair, it felt like a far more solid piece of kit, sturdy enough for home use.

The 3-point harness is a welcome safety feature, and the tray has three settings to allow for a growing child. The high arms give added security. It’s a comfy fit for my child child, with the cushion adding an extra bit of padding.

If you’re taking a seat out and about, it’s useful to have a few different height options, as cafe and restaurant chair/table combinations vary. The Summer Infant seat has two height options, with easy to pull out legs that are sturdy in use. And because it has its own back, I didn’t have to place it on a high-back chair, which makes it even more flexible.

The neutral colour scheme with bear motif is sweet and should fit in with most home decors.

What to watch out for

Securing the seat to a chair took a while the first time I got it out of the box – I needed to attach straps and the little seat cushion, which is a bit fiddly.

One downside is the tray slides off the front, which means if my child is sitting facing the table, I had to move the whole chair to get the tray off. Depending on the height of your dining chair/table combination, the high arms could get in the way.

Some mums have felt the cushion is a bit slippery and have done away with it altogether. The only thing it doesn’t have for taking out and about is a shoulder strap – though there is a carry handle. Personally, I tend to hook things on the buggy, so a strap would have been welcome. The crevices in the seat meant it was a bit fiddly to clean.

Who is the Summer Infant 2-Level Booster Seat best for?

Mums after a sturdy alternative to soft booster seats.

MadeForMums verdict

Easy to use, light and portable, the Summer Infant 2-Level Booster Seat works as a great highchair alternative at home and will fit on a variety of chairs when you’re out. Useful from weaning through to pre-school, it’s just a shame the seat has a few too many crevices to allow for really easy cleaning.
