Pros

  • Stylish, comfy, comes with storage, pull-out drawer for easy emptying

Cons

  • Expensive, big

If there was an award for the prettiest potty, the Boon Potty Bench would win it hands down. Beautifully sleek yet perfectly practical, it’s hard to find a better-looking potty training product, or baby toilet.

I say baby toilet, because that’s exactly what my daughter Rosie calls it. She’s just turned 2, we’re starting to potty train and she loves nothing more than to follow mummy into the bathroom, open up the lid and sit on her Potty Bench as I sit on the toilet.

As features go, the Boon Potty Bench is a winner. When the lid’s down, it acts as a handy step and when it’s in use, there’s a pull-out drawer for easy, sanitary clean-up and storage in both sides for toilet roll, wipes and small toys to keep your toddler amused.

What we love

There’s a lot to love about the Boon Potty Bench. The design is delightful and I’m more than happy to have it in my bathroom, as opposed to the plain or animal shaped potties that get dirty easily and can look tacky.

The thing I love the most though is how much Rosie enjoys sitting on it, and how comfy she looks when she plonks her bottom down. On a standard potty, she’ll have a quick sit down after struggling to get in the right position and on our bathroom toilet she’ll last a millisecond. The design of the Potty Bench is nice and flat so she can position herself easily and sit down with no effort at all. And if she hasn’t sat in the middle, she realises straightaway and shimmies herself over.

The handy storage compartments mean everything’s close to hand and when you put the lid down, the step is useful too. Boon really has thought of everything.

What to watch out for

Clearly a product like this isn’t going to come cheap. You can pick up a standard plastic potty for less than a fiver these days, so £37.99 is a pretty big investment in comparison. However, I think I’d be happy to pay it. The only downside would be if you live in a house with stairs, as opposed to a flat or bungalow, and need a potty both upstairs and down. Sometimes children can be fussy about using the potty they like best. Some experts advise you buy two that are exactly the same – and if you do that, it’s going to get expensive. That said, many households choose only to have one potty anyway, in which case there’s no need to worry.

The storage compartments can be a little on the stiff side and the Potty Bench itself does take up a fair amount of room, but as it looks so nice, I’m not complaining!

Who is the Boon Potty Bench is best for?

Yummy mummies who want a good-looking potty to fit in with the design of their home, and the utmost of comfort for their toddler.
