Best toddler ride-on

A toddler ride-on is all about independence, confidence and pure fun. These toys give little ones a sense of freedom while keeping playtime safe.

Our mini testers took a variety of ride-ons for a spin, while parents noted which were durable, easy to manoeuvre and offered the best play value. Here are the 2025 winners.

Gold: CUTIE FLASH Kinderkraft

Zayn is only 16 months, yet for the first time ever on a balance bike, he actually managed to move himself along with no help! He loves the flashing lights on the wheels, he’s also enjoying simply pushing it along when he’s not on it himself. The seat looks super comfy and can be raised as he grows.

Orla absolutely loves this toy, she drives around our house beeping the horn and shouting “Bluey car” multiple times a day! As a parent I love how sturdy the car is, it is fully toddler-proof which is perfect for my 23 month old!

Bronze: Chicco Vespa Primavera

My 2 year old absolutely loves the Chicco Vespa Primavera! The realistic sounds (engine start-up, horn, and music) kept him entertained straight away and the included sticker pack was a fun way to personalise the bike. A really fun, interactive ride-on with some nice touches to make it stand out.

Our testers and their parents evaluated comfort, battery life, assembly, overall fun factor and value for money. Here are the 2025 award winners guaranteed to thrill.

Gold: Razor Crazy Cart Shift

When asking my children how much they enjoyed playing with this toy the response was 'SO SO SO SO SO much'. The Razor Crazy Cart Shift gives them the thrilling independence of the 'real driver' feeling but whilst also feeling safe and easy to control.

The Crazy Cart is awesome fun: part go-kart, part-car, this is as close to driving as kids are going to get, and the sheer joy on the kids faces who tested this is why is won Gold. Silver: Xootz - Unicorn Bumper Car

My daughter loved the unicorn design and rainbow flashing lights, and she quickly got the hang of the joysticks, spinning around and bumping into things (safely!). It’s more exciting than a standard ride-on car — it has 360 degree spin, bright rainbow flashing lights and it’s bump-friendly, making it safe and fun to use indoors.

Bronze: Xootz - CoBolt Electric Ride On

My son has really enjoyed riding this E-bike and was very proud to be the owner of such a cool toy. As he's usually so cautious I think he really enjoyed how safe and secure it felt while allowing him to let go a bit and experience the thrill of going fast and driving something himself. It was also great how intuitive and easy it was to control.

Best trike

Our testers tried a variety of designs, from wooden classics to innovative 4-in-1 options, while parents assessed comfort, safety and longevity. These are our 2025 trike award winners.

Gold: Razor RipRider 360 Mini Lightshow

Just watching Chester pedalling about (it was his first ever time pedalling!) and us pushing him and making him spin, he didn't stop grinning. I think the entertainment and fun factor doesn't really wane at all, especially with practice and confidence — I can't see a downside at all.

Silver: Chicco Evolutive 4-in-1 Trike

My son has LOVED playing with the trike! He always asks to go on it and is also able to climb onto it and off it himself. The seat and arm straps are padded so he is comfortable in it and I know he’s safely strapped in while having a great time steering using the handlebars and learning how to pedal. I know as he grows and develops more and more, the trike will have the next stage/setting ready for him to use, and he will definitely love being able to ride the trike more and more independently.

Best balance bike

Balance bikes are the first step toward riding independently. Designed for toddlers and preschoolers, they focus on mastering steering and balance while boosting confidence.

Our little testers whizzed through a range of bikes, judging looks, fun extras and rideability, while parents looked at safety features, assembly and durability. Here are the winners for 2025.

Gold: Squish 12” Balance Bike

Super fun, bright and lightweight — we love it! The fact it is light enough for my son to control and handle on his own is already boosting his confidence and letting him enjoy it and have fun. He is moving faster each time he is out on it and wont be long before he's sitting on the saddle!

Both of my twins enjoyed playing with the ETER Kinderkraft balance bike. Thea particularly enjoyed her time trying to gain speed, steer and explore. She has asked to go out on the bike again and again. Even when she fell over, she was keen to get back on without hesitation. It made a simple walk to the park part of the play!

This balance bike provided lots of fun for my two boys — age 2 and 4. It kept them both engaged taking it in turns riding around our large local park’s cycle lane. They loved it and my eldest was able to pick up speed and glide. My youngest is still getting to grips with a balance bike but he picked this up very quickly.

My son has so much fun scooting and is absolutely made up when we bring this scooter to nursery pick ups. As a parent, I see this scooter as reliable with extra safety features. It also gives my little boy confidence and I feel that he felt a sense of achievement when he was able to scoot independently. As he loves it so much, it encourages outdoor play too.

She immediately had a quick go across the room and told me it was really fun. She has been using it to go to and from school since and loving every minute.

Charlie has very much enjoyed playing with this scooter. He spent most of the weekend riding it and trying out new tricks with it at the skate park. The scooter was light, which was ideal. It looked stylish and sleek which was a hit with my son. His 8-year-old brother was also keen to have a go as well!

Best toy for active play

Our testers tried everything from bouncing to hopping and parents considered safety, durability and ease of setup. These 2025 winners are perfect for energetic little ones.

My daughter really enjoys them, we just let her imagination run wild and she has played so many different games with them. The first time we took them out, we were playing outside for hours. She likes the bright colours, she likes the fact that it's a toy she can easily set up herself and she can be as creative as she wants.
