Best sustainable toy

Eco-conscious toys show that it’s possible to be kind to the planet while delighting little ones. These toys focus on using recycled or recyclable materials, responsible production and thoughtful packaging, without compromising on fun.

Parents judged sustainability, durability, quality and value, while children focused on how engaging and enjoyable each toy was. Here are the 2025 winners.

Gold: Le Toy Van - Wooden Rainbow Ride On Trike

This is an heirloom piece. If looked after, it will last forever. The packaging was all paper too with no plastic. It's quite lovely.

Gold: tickit Safari Animal Layer Puzzle

The wood quality of this puzzle is brilliant, and the chunky pieces have already survived various rough and tumble experiences. As this puzzle can grow with my child, I feel we will get years of play from it yet and it'll hopefully allow me to pass it onto to my 2nd child (currently pregnant) in the future, making this a very sustainable product, particularly within the puzzle market.

Silver: Jaques of London Toy Ferry Boat

Freya the Ferry by Jacques of London is a sustainable toy made from responsibly-sourced wood and designed to be eco friendly. It's crafted entirely from wood, painted with water based paints and safe for children. It was delivered in recyclable cardboard box.

MadeForMums Toy Awards Team say: "It's clear to us that sustainability is incredibly important to Jaques of London. They used responsibly-sourced wood to make this gorgeous wooden toy ferry boat which is finished with child-safe, water based paints. The company has also pledged to replace all the wood they use to craft their toys and games, which made them a very deserving award winner in this category."

Silver: Jaques of London Wooden Animal Skittles

I know from previous Jacques toys that they are very conscientious and use sustainable wood, which I think is incredibly important and something I look for when purchasing wooden toys.

Bronze: Orchard Toys Dinosaur Number Eggs

I was pleased with the game being made from cardboard and made from 80% recycled material.

Best wooden toy

Wooden toys are timeless — durable, beautiful and built to be cherished for years. From activity sets for toddlers to classic games, these toys encourage imaginative play and often become family favourites.

Our mini testers explored play potential, interactivity and fun, while parents considered quality, longevity and value for money. Only those that truly impressed made the 2025 list.

Gold: Little Lolly Wooden Magnetic Fishing Toy - Alphabet Version

Pearl has enjoyed playing with the alphabet fishing game. Pearl was so proud of herself when she got the order right and was using the fishing rod to order them. If she got one wrong, she would then recognise and remember for next time. She has also made up multiple games using the fish and has ordered them in different ways. This toy is great to encourage thinking and speaking.

MadeForMums Toy Awards Team say: "It's worth noting that this was one of the highest scoring toys in the whole Toy Awards this year! For something so simple, it supports early learning, alphabet recall, fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, all while having fun. A lovely toy for just shy of £20!"

Silver: Jaques of London Wooden Animal Skittles

I love the skittles! They are really pretty and I love all of the animals. It's fun to stand them up, as I can count to 10 and then knock them down! I really want to play with them again, because they're so fun to play with. It's just like real bowling, and I can do it at home with my mummy and daddy!

Silver: Jaques of London Toy Ferry Boat

My son exclaimed that he liked it when he was unboxing the toy. He was captivated by the wooden colourful boat. He likes opening and closing the sliding door and loading and unloading the cars while sliding them down the ramp. We had hours of screen-free play when he pretended that Freya travels over rivers to transport cars from one land to another.

Bronze: tickit Safari Animal Layer Puzzle

My child loved playing with this puzzle and I found that it held his attention for over 20 minutes. He has taken it out and asked for it every day since. He found various ways to play with the puzzle, from the traditional matching the animals to their respective spaces, to using the chunky animals to build a 'tall, tall tower'.
