How to change your baby’s nappy

Follow our step-by-step guide and you won't go wrong

Step 1

Have to hand a clean nappy, cotton wool, warm water, and a small towel

Step 2

Unfasten the nappy, if there’s a poo, wipe most of it away with the nappy first – if it’s a boy, keep the nappy over his penis to avoid spray in your face!

Step 3

Clean the front area with cotton wool and water, before lifting your baby’s legs and cleaning his buttocks

Step 4

Pat his bottom completely dry with the towel, then fasten the new nappy

Step 5

Change his nappy every three hours and every time he does a poo. If he gets nappy rash, only use cotton wool and water (advisable anyway in the first few weeks), leave your baby with his nappy off for a few minutes at intervals during the day and use a cream, such as Sudocrem
