After taking five years off work to raise her adoptive son Liam, 8, the former Ally McBeal actress Calista Flockhart works hard to prioritise motherhood over work and keeps Liam’s feet on the ground.

Now back on our screens as Kitty Walker in the US hit show, Brothers and Sisters, Calista ensures that she is always home in time for tea! “I make it work the best I can. It’s all about making the right choices. I chose to do a TV show that kept me in LA, so I can do what I love and still be a mum, plus I manage to get home for dinner” the actress told Closer magazine.

Happily settled with her fiancé and veteran actor Harrison Ford, 67, it seems that Liam isn’t fazed by what his famous parents do for a living. In fact, he doesn’t even know that they are famous. “He doesn’t really know what ‘famous’ is. He’s aware we are actors, he knows we do movies and are on TV, but we never use the word ‘famous’.”

Calista’s character in Brothers and Sisters has recently adopted a baby, and fortunately for her, it was a case of art imitating life. “ I knew what it meant emotionally to adopt. Once you become a mother, it informs your acting in a richer and deeper way. Babies get under your skin like that,” she concluded.
