Patsy’s break from filming will coincide with the exit of her character, Bianca Butcher, later this month. Fellow actress Lindsey Coulson, who plays her onscreen mum Carol, will also be taking an extended break from the show over the summer.

Patsy has opted for some time out from looking after her on screen brood to spend more time with her own family, children Charley, 20, Fenton, 11, Emilia, 10, 16-month-old Bertie and husband Richard Merkell.

Patsy’s youngest Bertie arrived in a dramatic fashion in December 2010 when Patsy went into premature labour and spent a month in hospital under close watch. She was overjoyed at the safe arrival of Bertie. “He’s brought so much joy to the family,” she said. But she also said that returning to work after Bertie’s birth was difficult. “Returning to work was a wrench,” Patsy said.

According to The Daily Mail, a spokesperson for EastEnders said, “Patsy and Lindsey will be back on screen later this year.” Good news for EastEnders fans!
