If your little one won’t brave the bathroom alone at night, you’re far from alone.

New research has revealed that nearly three-quarters of UK parents say their children are afraid to go to the toilet once the lights are out – and a new glow-in-the-dark toilet roll aims to help.

Eco-friendly brand Who Gives A Crap has launched its Dream Edition toilet paper – a limited edition loo roll designed to ease kids’ night-time fears with glowing wrappers and dreamy artwork, while also doing good globally.

The new launch comes as a survey reveals that 25% of UK parents say their child refuses to go to the toilet alone at night, and 16% are being woken every night to help.

A familiar bedtime battle for many families

Whether it’s monsters under the bed or the hallway light being too far away, many parents will know the frustration of bleary-eyed night-time toilet trips.

The survey of UK parents of children aged 3–13 found that:

  • 73% of children are afraid to go to the toilet in the dark
  • 72% of parents are called on at least once a week to accompany their child to the loo at night
  • Over a third (35%) of children say they’re scared of the dark
  • 1 in 6 parents (16%) is woken up every night to help

For families with multiple young kids – or especially anxious ones – that adds up to a lot of broken sleep.

The new Dream Edition loo roll hopes to provide a small but helpful solution. With glow-in-the-dark designs and a soft, sustainable 3-ply bamboo roll inside, the product is as playful as it is practical.

‘Bathroom glow-up’: how the Dream Edition works

Designed by illustrator Liunic, each roll is wrapped in artwork inspired by the wonder of the night sky, the deep sea and glowing mushrooms – and crucially, the designs glow in the dark.

Perfect for giving little ones a visual guide in the dark (or just a fun incentive to make it to the toilet!), the glowing wrappers are also proving a hit with parents prepping for festivals or family camping trips.

The rolls are available in 24 packs for £30 or 48 packs for £48, launching on 13 June exclusively at whogivesacrap.org.

A fun solution with a serious mission

While this playful product helps families navigate night-time toilet fears, it also supports a far more serious cause. Who Gives A Crap donates 50% of profits to support projects creating access to clean water and safe toilets around the world.

“For billions of people, not having a toilet can mean making dangerous trips outside in the dark – especially for women and girls,” the brand explains. The Dream Edition is designed to bring that issue into focus for families who might otherwise never consider it.

It's a small step that helps children feel braver at home – and helps create safer night-time toileting globally.

Where to buy

Who Gives A Crap Dream Edition glow-in-the-dark toilet roll is available directly from Who Gives A Crap (£30 for 24 rolls / £48 for 48 rolls).

If you’ve got a little one who still asks you to wait outside the loo – or you’re planning summer holidays under canvas – this glowing loo roll might just make night-time wees a little less spooky for everyone.
