Home & Away star Emily Symons has given birth to a baby boy just days before her 46th birthday. The actress, who has played Marilyn Chambers for 26 years, welcomed the little boy today (Monday). Her agent issued a statement saying 'mother and baby are doing well'.

Emily first announced that she and her partner Paul Jackson were to become parents during an interview earlier this year. She revealed she was already 5-months along, and thrilled to be expecting as she had worried she was 'too old' to have a baby.

"I very much thought it couldn't happen and I was too old," she told Australia's Daily Telegraph. "I thought it would be impossible but it isn't. I'd given up really. I thought I had tried every avenue that was available to us. My advice is to not give up if you're feeling a bit overwhelmed by the whole process."

After revealing her exciting news, Emily tweeted: "Never say never! We are so happy to finally be able to share our news. Thanks for all your incredibly kind words." She also said in a statement at the time that it was her 'greatest wish to be a mother' and that she and Paul were 'overjoyed at this chance to be parents together and to introduce a sibling to Paul’s children - Tommy, Georgia and Grace'. She confirmed at the time that their unborn child was 'conceived through IVF' and a 'dream come true'.

Emily previously spoke of her experience of IVF, saying the process was 'gruelling' and 'soul destroying'. She said her egg quality had not been good enough to use during their first attempt, and she and Paul had to 'kiss a lot of frogs' before they were successful!

She also admitted that she had not been able to wait for blood tests to confirm her pregnancy, and instead took a 'forbidden' home pregnancy test just days after her embryo insemination! She said she couldn't quite believe it when she got a pink line on the stick, and took another test the following day to confirm the result!

Emily - who also played barmaid Louise Appleton in British soap Emmerdale - has never made a secret of her desire to start a family, and spoke in the past of her IVF attempts to have a baby with her former husband, Lorenzo Smith. She later admitted that her longing for a baby had put a lot of pressure on the couple's relationship.

What wonderful news at last for this lovely lady - we can't wait to see the first pics!
