The parents of a four-year-old boy have been given a warning about their son's noisy play in their garden. The family received a noise abatement notice from the council, threatening a £5,000 if the noise continues, but the parents of 4-year-old Alfie say the complaint is ridiculous.

“I always watch Alfie when he plays in the garden and he’s never that noisy,” said dad Simon. “I just don’t understand it. When I first opened the letter I was shocked, then I was fuming.”

Alfie’s mum Pippa added, “It’s pathetic. It’s the summer holidays. Kids make noise. What am I supposed to do, gag him and put him in his bedroom?”

The complaint came from an unnamed neighbour, but Emma Ward, who also lives near the family, agrees that it’s unfounded. “Alfie is a lovely boy and it’s nice to hear children playing outside. The council hasn’t got a leg to stand on.”

The council has explained that it is legally required to respond to any complaints it receives. It has also asked the complainant to keep a record of times when Alfie’s playing causes a noise disturbance.

But you have to wonder, how noisy can one little boy be?!
