An 18-month-old boy, Baerke van der Meij, has become the youngest football superstar. After dad Jorg posted a video on YouTube of his son skillfully kicking his football, the toddler was signed by Dutch team Venlose Voetbal Vereniging. (VVV)

Baerke joined VVV’s star midfielder Ken Leemans for his first trial session at the team’s De Koel stadium for just an hour before the club signed him. He then celebrated with a glass of orange juice.

“The toddler’s favourite position has not yet been determined. However, we can speak of a right-footed player with a very good kicking technique, perseverance and, importantly, football genes via his granddad,” said the club.

Baerke’s granddad once played for VVV and his family are still huge fans of the team.

The toddler is being compared to Dutch football stars, Denis Bergkamp and Arjen Robben.
