We’ve got quite used to the idea of vampires, werewolves and general blood-thirst. However Bella Swan, human-come-vampire’s-girlfriend-come-wannabe-vampire, played by Kristen Stewart, giving birth in the latest Twilight film, Breaking Dawn, is something else.

Not only does Bella’s baby start crushing her ribs but with a spine-tingling crunch, Bella’s back is snapped in half. Dad-to-be Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson (cue screaming!), must then bite her stomach to get the baby out in time. We’re all for not shying away from the realities of giving birth, but mums beware, these are some of the scariest scenes to hit the cinema since, well, probably since Bambi’s mum died!

Mums may well be comforted by Bella’s sheer determination to give birth to her baby no matter what, but there’s no denying this is peek-through-your-fingers stuff. Did they really need to be that graphic? Surely the fact that she’s giving birth to, er, a VAMPIRE is scary enough!
