The goodies inside the L'Oreal advent calendar

Entering Selfridges’ ultra lounge to find fake fluffy white snow falling on your head and Christmas music buzzing in your ears is unexpected to say the least for mid July! But here at MFM, we took it in our stride and got down to the business of discovering the luxurious range of goodies Selfridges would offer this Christmas.

This year, Selfridges has taken on a very distinct theme - White Christmas. This sees all the new ranges coming in white. At the press show, the room was lined with tables brimming with elegant white gifts, from cosmetics and clothes to handbags and suitcases.

Let’s face it, advent calendars aren’t just for kids and Selfridges has capitalised on this with its L’Oreal advent calendar. Behind each door you'll find small perfume bottles, lip glosses or lipsticks, hand creams or maybe even a soothing eye cream. Less calories than the usual chocolate calendars and definitely one your partner won’t want to nick!

So many handbags and so little time…although white may not be the most practical of colours for mums on the go, why not suggest (strongly) that your other half pick up a new bag for your prezzie? We liked the Paul Smith white swirl shoulder bag - at £525, it's not for those watching the budget, but it is elegant, feminine and also a decent size to fit in all your everyday essentials. The Pont des amoureux watch is also one to look for, with its white strap and detailed clock face.

While we’ll on the subject of treats, Selfridges' selection of white dresses really caught our eye. Special mention goes to the Bonpoint Selfridges exclusive Christmas gown, a gorgeous child’s dress with just a hint of silver sparkle, for £200 to £300. With this price tag, it's definitely one to pass down from sister to sister.

Don’t worry we haven’t left out the men! The Mont Blanc silver cufflinks in their sleek black boxes would make a very special gift, for £505. Granddads would love the Lyle and Scott Golf swing jumper, £120, a warm knit to keep snuggly in December.

There's always that one gift that's for kids but adults secretly covet - in this case, it would be the Wow Wee ride in Dalek for £199. Your child can sit in the inflatable Dalek and use the steering wheel to drive around the house.

The Angelina Ballerina dance and sing doll also caught our eye for £24.99. For a quirkier gift, the Bobby Dazzler exclusive Christmas characters really stand out, for £39 each.

We also spotted miniature bags and shoes - for totally spoilt teens perhaps?! Yes, the Charlotte Olympia miniature Paloma heels look gorgeous in every colour, as does the miniature Fendi handbag, for (gasp!) £690.

Food wise, Selfridges has gone chocolate crazy. The Artisan du Chocolat range is ideal for chocolate lovers, with its massive selection of soft centred flavours. You can sample chocolates with flavours including banana and thyme, sea salted caramel and jasmine tea, and the range of South Sea and Tahiti Pearl chocolates offer that special something with their tasty ganaches. Chocolate wreaths combine the yummy with the festive.
