Here at the MFM office, we’ve always got our eyes and ears open for the latest baby-name trends – from the seasonal to the hint of vintage to the full-on Americano tribute – we’re on it almost as soon as you are.

So much so that, like you, we tend to nod ever so slightly smugly when the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reveals the top UK baby names for the previous year each August.

But the names we’re really interested in are the ones our very own MFM mums are going for right now.

And, just so you can see too, we’ve had a bit of a delve in our Birth Clubs discussions and made a list of the top names MFM mums and mums-to-be are choosing or considering.

Here are just a few of the themes we’ve spotted…

Princes and princessses

We’ve had a wee flurry of royal names over the last few weeks – Isabella (there’s a Princess Isabella of Denmark), William, Sophia (though yes – we know the Disney version’s with an ‘f’ 😄) and, straight from Sleeping beauty, Aurora. Ahhhhh.

Floral

With summer finally here (hooray!) we’ve discovered some decidedly seasonal-sounding and utterly gorgeous names we think are just lovely for this sunny time of year: Rose, Poppy, Iris and Lilly to name but a few.

Traditional English

This has been a really hot one over the last few weeks – with a number of parents going for those really traditional names like Elizabeth, Sophia, Evie, Abigail, Henry, Robert, Arthur James and Timothy.

Americano

There’s definitely something of a nod across with pond, with US-sounding names such as Blaze, Brody, Maddison, Woody, Hunter, Lincoln, Wade, Cooper, Ashton and Dallas having a bit of a moment.

Retro

And the love of retro lives on with both boys and girls getting the ‘cool dude’ treatment: let’s hear it for Isaac, Victor, Stanley, Charlie, Reggie and Harry, and Tilly, Grace, Tallulah, Lorelei and Clementine.

But, if we’re honest, there’s no one theme, trend or one-size-fits-all when it comes to a baby name, is there? The full rundown has a whole host of equally gorgeous and varied names. Take a look…
