The BornFree Vented Glass Bottle, like the plastic version (BornFree BPA-Free Vented Plastic Bottle) contains a venting system, similar to that in Dr Brown's bottles. It’s been linked to reduced colic and ear infections. This vent works by reducing the build-up of vacuum in the bottle. This also means a constant pressure is maintained, so as your baby progresses through the bottlefeed, he – in theory - isn’t made to work more for the milk.
What we love
The BornFree Vented Glass Bottle is reassuringly free from the usual suspects us parents are now often told to watch out for - BPA, PVC and Phthalates.
The anti-coli system did seem to make Jack, 9 months, burp less than when he feeds from his usual brand of bottle. While he’s too old for colic, I can imagine that if you had a newborn, this reduction in wind could mean less rocking and pacing to soothe wind or colic pain.
What to watch out for
To get the milk in, the value has to be out, so filling the bottle is tricky. Unless you wear rubber gloves for this, the sterilisation you’ve done is slightly wasted.
The bottle is also heavy and bulky. It's not particularly cheap.
While we used the same speed (flow) teat as we do on Jack’s usual bottle, Jack seemed a little perplexed by the fact the milk came out faster than usual, and from only one hole. The result was loads of milk escaping down his chin. The teats are also very long - I am not sure whose nipple they're modelled on! The long teats also meant Jack was tempted to use the bottle as a teething device.
When it comes to cleaning, the BornFree Vented Glass Bottle (260ml) isn’t easy to wash because of the component parts.

A good quality BPA-free bottle, with an anti-colic vent system does seem to reduce wind. The BornFree Vented Glass Bottle is durable, providing you don't drop it. However, the bottle is bulky and difficult to clean. Also, the teats may not be for everyone.
