For many parents, adaptability is a key feature when choosing a pushchair. The Jané Muum, with its reversible seat, travel system compatibility and compact fold ticks all the boxes.

Spanish manufacturer Jané is known for its sturdy, well-built and versatile pushchairs, and the new Muum is no exception. Its two big selling points are its ease of use (the patented Profix system means you can lock and unlock a carrycot or car seat from the chassis with one hand) and its slimline fold.

The Jané Muum has a spacious, comfortable seat suitable from 6 months, which easily converts from forward facing to parent facing, a three-position recline, adjustable handlebar, adjustable footrest, handlebar brake, lockable swivel front wheels, and a large shopping basket. It can be folded with the seat unit in place, but is more compact when the seat and quick-release back wheels are removed. It’s freestanding when folded, and has a useful carry handle.

Available in four colours – earth, herb, scarlet and violet – the Jané Muum costs £279.99. There are also several travel system options, which will see you able to use it from birth – Muum Rebel (pushchair and Rebel Pro car seat, £379.99), Muum Matrix Light 2 (pushchair and Matrix Light 2 car seat/carrycot, £499.99) and Muum Formula (pushchair, Rebel Pro car seat and Micro folding carrycot, £549.99).

What we love

My first impression of the Jané Muum was how easy it is to set up. I had it out of the box and fully assembled within 10 minutes. The seat unit clicks easily on and off the chassis, and it takes a matter of seconds to convert it from forward facing to parent facing. It’s also simple to fold, especially with the seat removed.

My 15-month-old daughter Katie loves riding in the Muum. It has a nice, high seating position, and the seat is spacious and comfortable – so much so that Katie looks like she’s chilling out in an armchair. It’s wide and padded enough to seat an older toddler in comfort.

The Muum is a lovely buggy to push. Even though it’s quite big, the chassis weighs in at just 6.6kg – no more than many lightweight strollers – and manoeuvres beautifully. The front wheels have independent suspension, so it takes uneven ground in its stride. Meanwhile, the back wheels are the perfect compromise – a similar size to those on all-terrain pushchairs, meaning it bumps up and down kerbs easily, but solid rather than air-filled, so there’s no punctures.

Although we tested the Muum as a standalone pushchair, the various travel options make it highly versatile.

I also love the shopping basket – it’s huge!

What to watch out for

There’s very little to dislike about the Jané Muum, but my biggest gripe is that it doesn’t come with any accessories. Even the raincover – which I think of as a necessity rather than an optional extra in our climate – will add £35.99 to the price tag.

When the Muum is folded, it can stand up by itself, resting on the handlebar, and although this makes it compact and easy to store, I’m a little concerned that the handlebar could become scuffed and damaged over time.

My only other niggle is that the hood is very big, and when it’s pulled down, I can’t see Katie when she’s facing forwards. I’d much prefer the hood to have a viewing window so I could interact with her on the move.

Finally, if you want to use it from birth, you’ll have to budget extra for one of the travel system options.

Who is the Jané Muum best for?

Parents looking for a pushchair that is both lightweight and sturdy, with lots of travel system options.

MadeForMums verdict

The Jané Muum is an intelligently designed pushchair with lots of great attributes, including its compact fold and easily convertible forward facing or parent facing seat. It manages to be lightweight and manoeuvrable without compromising on comfort or sturdiness, and, with its travel system options, is versatile enough to suit many families’ needs.
