Joolz may be a fairly new company but it is making waves in the buggy industry. And with the Day Sense the Dutch company has created its own high-end pushchair that is rivalling the Bugaboo Cameleon3, Stokke Crusi and Cosatto Ooba.
Working with a ‘Positive Design’ philosophy it aims to develop and create high quality, functional and stylish pushchairs according to its key factors of Care, Play & Sleep.
An equally important factor of the Day Sense is the prams eco-friendly design, composition and materials. The stitching of the fabric is made of 76% organic cotton 24% hemp organic cotton and hemp are grown without use of chemical fertilizers.
Whereas the outer fabric is made of 65% organic cotton 35% recycled polyester organic cotton, is grown without use of chemical fertilisers. And if that wasn’t enough recycling for you, the pushchair packaging box and every accessory can be transformed into a practical and beautiful product for children to play after you're done with them.

How was assembling the Day Sense?
Assembling the pushchair took no time at all, with just a few clicks and a few button pushes it was up and ready for action! The instructions are simple and useful, but even without them you could put it together easily.
How did you find changing between seat unit and bassinet?
It is effortless to change from bassinet to the seat unit, and to fold both up when on the chassis, and even with buggy board still attached.
How much space does the pushchair take up?
Not much at all, it is not as light as some other pushchairs, but it is really compact once folded. The large back wheels can be removed to make storage even easier, may it be in your hall, cupboard or fitting it in the boot of your car!
What do you think of the infant carrycot?
I love it! I tried it with my 3-week-old son; I love the fact that the carrycot could be used as an overnight sleeper, perfect for visiting family or even on holiday! It comes with a 100 percent certified hypo allergenic, breathable mattress. It also has small feet on the base to keep it off the ground to ensure baby is not in contact with a floor, which may be too cold or hot.
It is wider and slightly longer than some other carry cots, giving baby a bit more space and room to grow. My 3-week-old boy (who is quite long for his age!) seemed very snug in it and slept very well, in fact better than in his Moses basket.
Joolz has made the buggy out of mainly organic and recycled materials; what did you think of that?
Being quite passionate about the environment, I loved the fact that the Sense was made using eco-friendly fabrics that are anti-allergenic. The inner material is made of 76% organic cotton and 24% organic hemp and the outer material consists of 65% organic cotton and 35% recycled polyester. These fabrics help to regulate temperature inside the carrycot/pushchair keeping my son warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The hemp fabric is also particularly resistant to mould, bacteria and UV sunlight.
Tell us about the seating unit.
The seat unit is fantastic, my youngest little girl loves sitting in it and looks very happy and comfortable. It has a great adaptable footrest that adjusts further than others I have owned, accommodating the taller child and preventing dangling legs!
The seat can either be rear or front-facing and can be reclined in a multiple of positions, both forward and back. Another feature I love about the seat, is that it is higher than most other pushchairs meaning it is easier on your back lifting your child in and out. It is also the perfect height to have at a table, so can double as a highchair when eating in restaurants/cafes.
What about the Joolz Day Sense buggy board?
As my youngest daughter is not used to walking too far yet, so I use the buggy board along with the pushchair. Again, as with the rest of the Day Sense, it is so easy to fix and take off and move in sync with the pushchair.
Its compact design mean it does not get in the way of my feet as I push, and when not in use it can be folded up and fastened to the chassis. My little girl seems very happy riding on the buggy board, in fact, it was hard to get her off it! This accessory is a must for those with a toddler, it has made trips out so much easier for me!
How does the pushchair maneouver when out and about?
The Day Sense handles like a dream! I can honestly say I have never come across a pushchair that steers so smoothly (and I have had a lot of them). I literally did a little jump for joy and grinned from ear to ear on my first trip out with it and still get excited every time I use it. I didn’t think it was possible to feel this way about a pushchair!!
Can it be used on all terrains?
It sure can! Its four-wheel suspension and large back wheels means it makes light work of uneven/rough surfaces and even the highest curbs and steps. Even with my baby in the carrycot, my youngest daughter on the foot board and keeping hold of my eldest and shopping in the basket, I can manoeuvre the pushchair one handed. It is smooth over pavements gnarled with tree roots, up and down notorious curbs, around busy supermarkets and it does not strain my wrist, an unbelievable feat now made achievable! Hooray!
What is the Play element of the Day Sense about?
The Play element of the Joolz Day Sense includes three cute little toys - a fish, a mammal and a bird. Made from the same fabrics as the pushchair these have been included to help stimulate the development of your baby or child, as well as provide possibilities for interactive play between parent and child.
They can be used as comforters for the younger babies and then used in creative role-playing games as the child gets older. I thought it was a nice idea to have these toys in a pocket attached to the pram (which can be removed), as they are handy for keeping little ones occupied and entertained when out and about, without filling a change bag full of toys!
Their simple design means it is up to the child to use their imagination, encouraging creativity. Both my little girls had fun playing with these independently and together (although there were a few arguments over who would have which!) and I look forward to my baby boy being old enough to start appreciating them.
What do you think of the overall design of the buggy?
There are so many lovely details on the Sense, the matching leather handlebar and bumper bar are so tactile (as are all of the pushchairs fabrics!) and so functional! The bumper-bar can be opened with one hand and has also been made strong enough to be the handle for the carrycot.
The height of the handlebar is easy to adjust with its discreet levers, and seems to be just the right width to get a good grip, as well as being very comfortable to use. It also extends further, perfect for the loftier mums and dad!
One of my bugbears with pushchairs are their rain covers, I have had so many ill-fitting ones & gone through so many that it is a relief to find that the Day Sense’s cover fits nicely and looks robust enough for a rainy and windy day.
Tell us about the basket.
The icing on the cake for me is the shopping basket! Having had many netted shopping baskets in the past, that have become ripped and misshapen, I was delighted to find a sturdy, case like compartment.
I love the fact it could be closed with a strong magnetised flap, to keep items such as handbags safe & hidden from view, but could also be left open to create a larger space for shopping bags.
Although not particularly large, I found it held enough for my needs, an XL shopping bag can be bought as an additional accessory, and that looks like it can hold a lot!
Is it value for money?
It is quite expensive and so are some of the additional accessories, but considering the quality, I can say you are getting what you pay for.
Made For Mums verdict?
The Joolz Sense is perfect for those environmentally conscious parents, who appreciate good design, and quality. It is a fantastic, stylish, well made, ergonomic pushchair that is a joy to use! It has been the best experience of owning a pushchair I have had and I could not recommend it highly enough.
