The 190ml size MAM Learn to Drink Cup helps your baby learn how to drink from a cup rather than simply sucking like he needs to do on your breast or a bottle. It’s designed to be part of a two-phase learning concept, with the 270ml size MAM Learn to Drink Cup to be used next.

Before creating the MAM Learn to Drink Cups, MAM designers worked together with child psychologists and analysed how babies progress. The most important factor in the acquisition of new capabilities they found out is the so-called ‘bridging behaviour’ - when learning new movement patterns, children must gradually approach the new goal until they’re able to do it themselves. With the transition from bottle to cup and respectively from cup to ‘proper’ glass, this is exactly what’s happening. Before a child can drink from a glass, he first has to practice holding, how to control the weight and how to control the amount of liquid leaving a tipped cup or glass.

The MAM Learn to Drink Cup comes in two sizes, 190ml or 270ml. They are based on a unique two-phase learning concept. The learning phase begins with the 190ml cup from around 6 months. The 190ml size is smaller and lighter than 270ml. The spout is also softer. For babies used to breast or bottlefeeding, soft feels good and is therefore more easily accepted.

What we love

I was concerned Zac would struggle as the cup has no handles. But Zac had no problems – it’s made from a non-slippery material, and the shape of the cup is narrowed to make it easier to hold, too.

Due to the patented MAM valve spillages are kept to a minimum and the cup is easy to close.

The fact the cup can go in the dishwasher, steriliser or the microwave is a huge plus in my book as it makes cleaning them a breeze.

The designs are bright and fun – for the 190ml size there are three variations, which are different to those of the 270ml size. Also, the cup is BPA free.

What to watch out for

As with most trainer cups, I find non-spill options are never 100% spill free - we did have one incident where Zac had managed to spill an entire cup all over himself.

The cup is not the cheapest cup on the market.

Who is MAM Learn to Drink Cup (190ml) best for?

Mums looking for a gentle, but fun and fashionable, beaker cup for their baby.
