The well known and much loved Mamas & Papas developed this gorgeous ducky potty, the Squeaka Duck Potty, in 2006 and it’s everything you would expect from the UK’s number one nursery brand. It’s ergonomically designed, sturdy, has a large comfy seat, is very cute and comes in a sophisticated pearl white and lime colour. It’s really no surprise to see it’s has won a Practical Parenting Best Buy Award.
The Mamas & Papas Squeaka Duck Potty is bigger and slightly more expensive than your average potty, however it has a number of great design features. Cleaning is made easy, as the potty part is easily detached from the head by turning the red key at the front, which leaves you with just the pan to empty. It also comes with a click-on lid so you can cover the pan and eliminate spillages. Then there’s the squeaky beak - where would a duck be without his beak?! The easy-clean soft plastic beak is within easy reach for your toddler to lean over and squeak to keep himself amused.
What we love
My son Kyle loved this potty and was attracted to its gimmicky character theme and squeaky beak straight away. In the early stages he’d quite happily hop on and stay put whilst squeaking its beak and talking to the duck, which made potty training quite stress- and hassle-free for both of us. Kyle even liked to play with it when it wasn’t being used as a potty!!
The backrest is slightly higher than most potties, which offers your toddler much needed support and the large seat makes it very comfortable for him, especially when there’s a lot of waiting in the early stages.
The other great feature of the Mamas & Papas Squeaka Duck Potty is the soft grip handles. These give your toddler stability whilst he’s getting used to this whole new experience.
What to watch out for
My only negative comments about the Mamas & Papas Squeaka Duck Potty would be that your toddler has to completely take off his trousers and pants to get onto the potty, which can be a bit of a struggle in emergencies.
The second thing is the lip at the front of the pan could do with being a little bit taller for little boys - you can and will get a few sprinkles!
