If you’re looking for an alternative to disposables, or want to give your old reusables a new lease on life, look out for the Minki pocket nappies. You can stuff the nappies with anything you like, and they wash incredibly well, ready for use the next day.

Minki pocket nappies are reusable nappies made on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland by Michaela Smith and her team of stay-at-home mum seamstresses. They come in an enormous range of colours, and you can even design your own and ask them to make them for you.
The pocket nappies are made of fleece with a PUL (waterproof) lining, with elastic around the waist and legs, and fasten with Aplix. You’ll need to stuff them with something - you can buy a range of inserts from Minki, use pre-fold nappies, terry nappies or anything else you fancy.
What we love
These nappies wash brilliantly, and dry incredibly quickly. They also stay really nice and soft, although the fleece bobbles slightly, as all fleece does. You won’t have to buy too many as they dry overnight ready for use the next day.
They come in a really cute range of designs, and there’s a choice of standard Minki, or Slinki Minki for slimmer children.
They’re also really easy to use, with their Velcro fastenings and stretchy waist and legs.
What to watch out for
Minki pocket nappies are quite pricey, and they don’t come with an insert, so you have to buy them separately. However, this is useful if you want to use pre-fold nappies or terries that you already have.
They can also be bulky, and sometimes it’s hard to get your baby’s trousers over them – I tend to use them with tracksuit bottoms and dungarees.
Who are Minki pocket nappies best for?
Mums after funky reusables made by other mums.

MadeForMums verdict
The Minki pocket nappies fit well, and are great-looking, but quite bulky and tricky to get trousers over. They’re not cheap, but they do last very well and dry quickly. They’re a good option for babysitters or childminders, as you can pre-stuff them and use just like an all-in-one.
