What we love
Silver Cross has been transporting babies around in style since 1887, and the 3D Pram System travel system offers all the comforts you’d expect from such an established brand, along with a modern style. The 3D Pram System travel system is built around a lightweight aluminium frame that’s straightforward to fold and unfold, though admittedly these aren’t one-handed operations. It locks closed when folded and is freestanding, so is easy to transport and store. And while this is great, it really scores points for how easily it transforms from pram to pushchair mode.
The machine-washable pram insert (just as well because it’s white) sits neatly on the seat unit using the bumper bar and leg rest for security. It’s well padded to keep your newborn cosy and comfy, and should last up to 6 months. In the pram mode, it offers a cocoon for your newborn where you can see him, and he you. Once he’s big enough, and he faces forwards in the pushchair seat, there’s a viewing window in the hood.
The Ventura car seat completes the travel system. This offers a removable spinal support for newborns, padded headhugger, one-pull harness and good side impact protection. Everything clicks together with ease.
With a good choice of fabrics and that sleek frame, the 3D Pram System travel system is a handsome pushchair, though it’s unlikely to turn many heads – understated elegance is what’s on offer here. It’s easy to steer over smooth terrain
What to watch out for
While the pram mode should last up to 6 months, many parents seem to feel that this is a generous estimate as in reality it has lasted a much shorter time. If your baby’s a bruiser, he may not fit the pram liner for very long, which would negate the point of buying this buggy.
Despite steering being easy over smooth ground, some parents have commented about the wheels having a life of their own and stress the importance of being straight on before attempting a kerb. The shopping basket underneath is very roomy, but in pram mode or with the seat reclined it’s pretty much inaccessible.
Do make sure you’re folding it properly, or it seems you could end up with problems with your chassis. Even with the added cost of the car seat, it’s good value for a travel system, but for a pushchair that will mostly be used as just that, the price may seem a little high. The car seat is bigger than some, and may be a challenge to get into your car.
Who is the Silver Cross 3D Pram System travel system best for?
Mums after the reassurance of highly rated car seat in a handsome package.
A versatile travel system that offers looks and functionality. It’s particularly strong in pram mode, but your baby may grow out of this more quickly than you’d like.
