Pros

  • Reusable, elasticated legs for comfort and to prevent accidents, easy to rinse, dries quickly, competitive price, spacious enough to accommodate a nappy/additional disposable swim nappy for added protection, easy to get on and off a wet baby

Cons

  • Doesn’t cover body (it's a nappy not a suit) so young babies may get cold quickly

The Speedo Sea Aqua Nappy is a reusable, washable swim nappy that will keep the leaks in whether you’re in the pool or on the beach.

If you’ve ever visited a swimming pool then you’ll know Speedo is pretty big in the world of all things watery. Speedo has been designing and producing swimming costumes and related accessories since 1914. The Sea Squad Aqua Nappy is the first time the brand’s ventured into the baby swim nappy market. We’re complete water babies in our house so we were happy to test out the Speedo Sea Squad Aqua Nappy.

It’s a reusable swim nappy (as opposed to the disposable kind you can buy) and is part of Speedo’s Learn to Swim range. It comes in several sizes, from 3 months up to 2 years, and to put it on you just pull it up like a pair of pants.

Lily, 17 months, tried out the brightly coloured green Aqua Nappy, which had a very cute Sea Squad character on the bottom (useful to check you’ve got it the right way round). The nappy has elasticated legs that ensure a snug fit to contain any potential accidents.

What we love

You just never know when your baby or toddler is going to deliver a little present (and yes it has happened in the pool before) so I like to put a disposable swim nappy under a reusable nappy. Some swim nappies are so tight this is almost impossible but the Speedo Aqua Nappy manages to balance a comfortably tight fit around the legs and waist with enough give to allow for that extra layer. This slight looseness in the Sea Squad Aqua Nappy also means it’s really easy to get off your baby, even when they’re wet.

Size wise, 17-month-old Lily was wearing the 12-18 months and she’ll get several months wear out of it yet, making it a very cost effective alternative to throwaway swim nappies.

If you like bright colours but a simple design then you’ll love how this swim nappy looks.

I found this nappy really easy to rinse off (you can chuck it in the washing machine) and it dried out in literally minutes, which would be very useful on holiday. After a few trips to the pool and subsequent washes it still looks as good as new.

What to watch out for

We haven’t had the joy of testing this swim nappy out under poo conditions but it goes without saying that you’d have to get out of the pool if this happened. The only downside for me, and in common with lots of other swim nappies, is that it only covers the bottom half of a baby. I’ve found this means my little one gets cold quite quickly and I have to leave the pool.

Who is the Speedo Sea Squad Aqua Nappy best for?

Mums and dads who take regular trips to the pool or beach.

A brightly coloured swim nappy that delivers on reliability, and is quite to dry. It’s perfect for the beach, a holiday or the pool and offers a cost effective alternative to disposable swim nappies.
