Tested with 5-year-old twins, we review the YOMO 14 pedal bike to see how its lightweight frame, child-friendly handling and durable design perform on everyday rides, park trips and family outings.

4.0
In a nutshell
A lightweight, well-built first pedal bike that's easy for children to control and confidence-boosting to ride, particularly on pavements, park paths and smoother trails. While it's less suited to rough off-road terrain, its smooth handling make it an excellent upgrade from heavier starter bikes

The YOMO 14 is a lightweight pedal bike designed for children moving on from a balance bike and building confidence on two wheels. Aimed at riders aged around 4 to 5 years, it combines a slim frame with child-friendly controls to make starting, stopping and steering feel manageable for younger cyclists.
Sitting at the higher end of the first-pedal-bike market and supplied with a helmet and multi-tool, it promises durability alongside everyday ease of use — but how did it perform when tested by a pair of energetic five-year-olds on school runs, park rides and weekend outings?
The YOMO 14 bike is available from YOMO and Tweeks Cycles

Mum-of-two Roisin testeed the YOMO 14 bike with her 5-year-old twins, who used the bike for daily rides, park trips and longer weekend outings.

How easy is the YOMO 14 bike to set up?
Assembly took around 30 minutes without following the instructions. In practice, very little setup was required: the handlebars were already fitted and just needed turning 90° to align with the front wheel, which was already attached.
The instruction booklets included in the box appeared to be for different models, so some steps referenced parts that weren't present, such as lock nuts, springs, quick-release levers, spacers by the brake pads and brake disc rotors. Despite this, setup was still straightforward.
Everything needed for assembly was included in the box, which is especially helpful for busy parents, and adjusting the bike to suit each child's height was simple using the supplied tool.

Is the YOMO 14 bike a good first pedal bike?
Both girls immediately took to the bike and rode off smoothly on their first attempt, which really surprised us.
Initially, they found turning the trickiest part. Because the bike is so lightweight, sharper turns sometimes led to small falls, but they quickly learned that slower, more gradual movements made steering much easier.
The lightweight frame also made a big difference to everyday usability. They were constantly hopping on and off, swapping between each other, setting the bike down to play games and picking it back up again independently. Being able to restart easily after stopping was one of the most helpful features for us.
Both children found the bike equally easy to use.
Is the YOMO 14 bike comfortable for younger riders?
The girls spent nearly two hours riding at the park and only started to mention some saddle discomfort after about an hour. On shorter rides, there were no complaints.
Overall, their riding posture looked natural and comfortable. One twin, who is slightly taller, appeared to be reaching slightly further forward than her sister and would likely have benefited from a little more adjustment range between the saddle and handlebars.

Can the YOMO 14 bike be adjusted as your child grows?
The saddle height is very easy to adjust using the tool provided. While this makes adjustments straightforward in theory, in practice it can still feel like an extra bit of faff when children are waiting impatiently to ride.
As the girls approach age six, the adjustment range may start to feel slightly limited, particularly in terms of the reach between the saddle and handlebars.

How good are the brakes on the YOMO 14 bike?
The brakes were excellent. The girls could reach them comfortably and didn’t struggle with stiffness, which has been an issue with previous bikes.
Stopping felt smooth and controlled, even in situations where they needed to brake suddenly. They quickly became confident using the brakes independently without needing guidance from us.
We also tested braking on paved slopes in a specialist bike park, both uphill and downhill, and the bikes stopped reliably each time without wobbling.
How easy is the YOMO 14 bike to manoeuvre?
The steering is very responsive. At first, this led to a few falls while the girls adjusted to the responsive steering, but once they learned to make slower, smoother turns, handling improved significantly.

What terrain can the YOMO 14 bike handle?
The bike performed brilliantly on pavements, park paths and smooth dirt tracks. However, grass and rougher uneven surfaces were more challenging, and slightly chunkier tyres would likely improve performance on this type of terrain.
Despite its lightweight design, the bike looked stable and strong while riding, with no juddering or instability.
Is the YOMO 14 bike durable enough for everyday use?
The bike feels very well made and durable.
During one ride, a pedal came loose, but this was due to us not tightening it sufficiently during setup rather than a fault with the bike itself. When assembled correctly, it feels sturdy and reliable.
The twins have used it extensively in all weather conditions and across a wide range of environments, including grass, pavements, rocky paths and muddy fields. It has been dropped, knocked into fences, walls, trees and rocks, and still shows no signs of wear and tear.
We fully expect to pass it down to our two-year-old when he’s ready for pedals.
Is the YOMO 14 bike lightweight and easy to transport?
Yes, the girls had no trouble picking the bike up themselves when stopping and starting, which made riding much easier and more enjoyable for them.
It’s noticeably lighter than many other models we’ve used. While it’s easy enough for a parent to carry short distances, it wouldn’t be something I’d want to carry far.
The bike fits easily into a car boot and has a slim, streamlined profile that makes storage straightforward. It would fit under the stairs if needed, although we personally store ours outside due to mud.

What is the design and build quality like on the YOMO 14 bike?
The design is simple and sleek, with a bright red frame and white YOMO logo.
From an adult perspective, it looks very cool and premium. However, knowing my girls and their age group, they would probably enjoy additional colour options such as pink, rainbow or sparkly designs.
Despite being used in all weather and handled roughly at times, the finish still looks brand new apart from mud, and the streamlined frame makes it easy to clean.
What’s included in the box?
The box contains:
- The bike
- A helmet
- A multi-tool
- An instruction booklet
- Packaging materials
The included tool is particularly useful, as it can easily be carried to the park for quick adjustments if needed.
Is the YOMO 14 bike worth the money?
The bike sits in a higher price bracket than some alternatives, but the overall quality reflects this. From the packaging and assembly through to the riding experience, everything feels thoughtfully designed.
It has handled heavy rain, gravel paths and plenty of rough treatment from energetic five-year-olds without showing scratches or wear. The included helmet and adjustment tool also add extra value.
Compared with another pedal bike we own that cost around £100 less, we all agreed we would have preferred to buy the YOMO first. Its weight and size make it particularly well suited to children aged four to five who are frequently getting on and off their bike between activities.
Sharing the bike between siblings also increases its long-term value, especially given how easy it is to adjust.
Where can I buy the YOMO 14 bike?
It is available from YOMO and Tweeks Cycles

MadeForMums verdict:
We would absolutely recommend this bike. It’s easy to build, easy to use and strikes a great balance between being lightweight enough for younger riders while still feeling sturdy and robust.
It works particularly well as a first pedal bike. The girls have only been riding pedal bikes since the summer but were able to start riding this one confidently straight away, even on slight inclines.
We especially liked the included bell, adjustment tool and helmet. The only drawback was that it struggled slightly on longer grass and more rugged terrain, where chunkier tyres might perform better.
