The kids pool was all a tot could wish for

With two boisterous boys in our family, Jack, 5, and Robin, 3, myself, 30, and husband Steve, 32, really wanted to go somewhere that would cater for their every need, as well as ours.

We craved relaxation, but the boys needed plenty of activity, so meeting our requirements was a tall order but First Choice's Holiday Village Flamingo Beach provided exactly what each of us was looking for.

We flew to Arrecife and got a 45-minute coach transfer to the resort.

Action-packed break

The complex is a 10-minute walk along the coastline from the gorgeous town of Playa Blanca (which has lovely souvenir shops for mums). Booking all-inclusive meant we didn’t have to worry about cooking or carrying cash for drinks and snacks. The food was lovely, with an impressive selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner – including the boys’ new favourite, tapas.

The kids’ club had entertainment running all day, but there was enough happening around the pools to keep us all entertained, from quizzes to giant Jenga.

There are two main pools, plus a children’s activity pool where Robin learned to swim with the swim academy, and a wellness centre with hot tubs and a gym for some mum-indulgence. While Robin had his swimming lessons, Jack booked into the Reebok Football Academy and couldn’t wait to show off his skills at the end of the week.

We ventured out a few times to see the local area and got the 15-minute ferry across to the island of Fuerteventura, which had picturesque sandy beaches and old-fashioned winding streets in the main town for us to explore.

Holiday highlight

We hired bikes from the resort and cycled along the bay of Playa Blanca, which is flat and pedestrianised for walkers and cyclists. Dotted along the coastline were quiet, sandy beaches where we often stopped for a paddle.
