Family holiday review: Crystal Lakes in Switzerland
Lakeside luxury in this attractive Swiss resort that focuses on catering for families
"My husband Ben Hunter, 28, from Oxford, and I took our children Libby, 3, and Beth, 1, to Crystal Lakes’ all-inclusive Hotel Lago di Lugano in Switzerland’s Ticino region. We flew to Milan Malpensa, and transfered via two buses.
The stunning scenery, beautiful weather and an extremely family-friendly hotel made for a fanatastic holiday in Switzerland. We were impressed right from the start – our room had an amazing lake view, was very spacious and even had a separate room for the girls.
There was also a cot, high chair, baby bath and buggy all waiting in the room ready for us – just as we’d requested when booking.
Happy to stay on resort
The hotel is so geared to families we were really happy spending a lot of time there. The baby pool had a canopy above it so the girls could play in the water in the shade, there were life jackets when we used the pedalo on the lake, and when Ben and I wanted a bit of a break, there was the fantastic 6 months to 3 years children’s club open every day.
We couldn’t fault the food either, with a special dinner menu for Libby and baby food for Beth, we all enjoyed our evening meals overlooking the lake.
The hotel also offers a free taxi boat to the main town of Lugano, but if you’re feeling more adventurous, you can ride a funicular to the top of Monte Brè for amazing views. One thing to note is that most people in the region speak Italian so don’t forget your phrasebook.”
Holiday highlight
Libby loved the Swissminiatur – an open-air Swiss-themed mini model park. She was fascinated by the tiny buildings and enjoyed riding on the passenger train.
