Check-in baggage

  • Economy Class: one x 23kg bag (general), two x 23kg bags (frequent flyer, senators, HON circle members, star alliance gold members)
  • Business Class: two x 32kg bags (general and frequent travellers), three x 32kg bags (senators, HON circle members, star alliance gold members)
  • First Class: three x 32kg bags (general and frequent travellers), four x 32kg (senators, HON circle members, star alliance gold members)
  • Children under 2 years: one piece of baggage weighing up to 23kg and one folding pushchair
  • You can check in one buggy free of charge. It can't be taken onboard due to space limits

Carry-on luggage

  • First and Business Class passengers may take two pieces of hand luggage onboard with them
  • Economy Class passengers are only permitted one piece of hand luggage
  • A piece of hand luggage may not be larger than 55cm x 40cm x 20cm and may not weigh more than 8kg. Foldable garment bags are an exception to this - they count as hand luggage up to a size of 57cm x 54cm x 15cm

Seating

  • When booking a flight you should inform Lufthansa staff or the travel agent that you will be travelling with a baby. This is for arranging the best available seating option for you and your babies/kids

Feeding

  • Water for babies' bottles is available onboard. Lufthansa flight attendants will also warm a baby's bottle, formula and glasses, too
  • There are no objections to breastfeeding onboard flights
  • Lufthansa carries baby food on all its flights
  • Formula and breast milk can be taken onboard but there are restrictions - airport security regulations will determine quantities allowed as hand luggage through airport security. London Heathrow states the following: "If you are travelling with an infant, these items can exceed 100ml and do not have to fit into the resealable bag. However, the amount must be sufficient for your trip only and you may be asked to open the containers and taste the contents. There are no limits for formula milk powder, and bottled water is available in shops after security. Your airline can provide water during the flight. This exemption to the 100ml liquid regulations can only apply when you are travelling with an infant. In other cases, excess liquids should be carried as hold luggage."

Meals

  • Children’s meals can be ordered free of charge for all Lufthansa long-haul flights and for a number of European flights when you book your flight or by calling the Lufthansa Service Centre no later than 24 hours before departure

Pregnant travel

  • If you have a complication-free pregnancy, you can travel on Lufthansa flights until the end of the 36th week of pregnancy or up to four weeks before your expected due date without a medical certificate from a gynaecologist
  • A possible certificate of exemption for a flight after the 36th week of pregnancy can be requested from Lufthansa’s medical operations centre. The same applies in the case of a complicated pregnancy

Cancellation

  • If you're unable to use your ticket and request a refund, your ticket will be refunded in line with the fare conditions. Taxes, fees and charges, with the exception of the so-called Ticket Service Charge, can be refunded in full, provided that no part of the ticket has been used
  • With tickets that do not permit a refund of the airfare, the fuel and security surcharge is not refunded
  • Should a refund be possible, there may be a charge for this depending on the fare booked
