A taxi driver helped deliver a baby boy in the back of his own cab while taking a family to hospital.
The pregnant passenger began going into labour while cabbie Colin Gillmore was driving her with her partner and son to St Mary’s Hospital in Manchester. So Colin pulled in his Skoda Octavia cab at the MEN Arena car park and called the emergency services.
The phone operator then gave instructions to the cabbie and the dad-to-be on speaker phone. “The mum was lying across the back seat. We were on the pavement with the back doors open following the instructions,” explained Colin.
“The operator was brilliant, she calmly told us what to do. I just couldn't believe how quick it all was. The baby came out and did a little cough.”
The whole delivery only took 10 minutes. Incredibly the couple’s 2-year-old son sat through the whole thing in the front of the cab eating a banana!
