Multi-tasking mums are forgetful, says survey

Survey reveals that the average mum has 25 different daily tasks – and 30% admit they forget something everyday!

Whoops! Sorry I forgot
Whoops! Sorry I forgot...

A recent survey of 3,000 mums has revealed that stressed out mothers tackle 25 different tasks every single day. But with the pressures of multi-tasking paying the bills, remembering birthdays and doing the school run, one in 10 admit to forgetting vital things – like making dinner!

The research by Aunt Bessie found that nine out of 10 mums are so snowed under they forget important things like taking out food from the freezer to defrost (48% admit doing this!) with a further 29% forgetting all the ingredients for the family meal.

It’s not just dinnertime that mums forget about – birthdays, taking library books back and paying bills also slip their minds too! Over a third blame their forgetfulness on being too busy to cram it in, while one in 10 says it’s because they’re knackered.

But for every task forgotten, mums feel wracked with guilt, with 18% admitting they always feel bad when they forget something - especially when they get a ticking off from their child’s teacher! One in five revealed that they had gotten in trouble with their child’s school because of their forgetfulness.

If like the mums polled you feel that there aren’t enough hours in the day, take a look at MFM’s guide on how to maximise your ‘me’ time.

Are you a forgetful multi-tasking mum? We’d love to know your worst moment!

Forgetting to take the food out of the freezer is more or less a daily occurrence for me,but I do very well in the Plan B department.
Yesterday I sent my eldest to school with PE kit all nice and clean, but forgot the white PE socks.
Recently I forgot to go to parents evening for two of my kids.I remembered that morning,I remembered lunchtime.I remembered again the next day.Very guilty for that one.

I think anyone, whether or not they have children, if they have as much on their minds as a mother, so much to do, organise, etc, sometimes with very little sleep, anyone like that could be forgetful.  But most non-parents would not have that to contend with. About 2 years ago

Not a day goes by without me forgetting something. I worry about myself sometimes! If losing things was an olympic event I'd get a gold medal! I always forget where I put things. I go into rooms and stand there thinking "what have i come in here for?" And all the time I'm thinking "I'm sure there was something I had to do".

I frequently do things and then later have absolutely no recollection of doing it. Then on the other hand I'm almost certain I've done something when in fact I havent. The other day I could have sworn I'd turned the iron off after finishing the ironing but when I went into the kitchen about an hour later it was still switched on! It's a good job it goes into a standby mode if it hasn't been used for 10 mins!

I think the most frustrating thing is when I go shopping. I never ever ever remember everything. Even if I make a list I either forget to take the list out with me or I forget to put something on it. I'm so bad that sometimes I have to go back to the shops a second time for all the things that I've forgotten!

I think the worst thing I've done is forgetting to put a nappy on my LO one afternoon! Yes I completely forgot! The poor girl didn't say anything and she just sat there looking at me. It was only when I picked her up for a cuddle and she was wet through that I realised! I felt so bad!

My excuse is that I am constantly on the go from about 6.30am to 10pm every day, often with very little or no sleep the night before. My mind never rests. I'm always thinking "I've got to do this and I've got to do that and then when I've finished that I've got to do..." Perhaps I should learn to relax more. Though knowing me I'd probably forget!
