  • Make a change

Amanda Holden and baby Hollie are helping support Pampers and Unicef's campaign to eliminate Maternal and Newborn Tetanus (MNT) around the world.

As part of the campaign, now in it's 7th year, every 1 promotional pack of Pampers you buy = 1 life-saving vaccine for women in countries who are still at risk.

Amanda says, "It's fantastic to see how the efforts of mums everywhere have made a significant difference already," she said.

"But it's also a reminder that women and babies around the world are still at risk and continue to die needlessly from a disease that can so easily be prevented."

  • In it together

Unicef has worked tirelessly to eliminate the threat of MNT in 8 countries: Ghana, Myanmar, Uganda, Liberia, Guinea Bissau, Timor Leste, Burkina Faso and Senegal. But, 130 million women and their newborns are still at risk in 33 countries around the world.

  • V is for vaccinate

To date, Pampers and Unicef has helped 100 million women of child-bearing age to get the protection they need.

  • Time to act

But more needs to be done. Still 58,000 babies die in their first month of life every year due to the illness. Political crisis in countries like the Ivory Coast means women are forced away from health centers, or they're closed down altogether.

Pampers and Unicef hope to elimate the risk of MNT in a further 9 countries by the end of 2012. These countries -Cambodia, Cameroon,Côte D’Ivoire, Gabon, Madagascar, Tanzania, Indonesia, Laos, Sierra Leone - can then apply for elimination status from the World Health Organisation.
